Mistledale (Karisin)

100 rooms · levels 15–30

Karisin's Lair

This is a massive cavern that was carved by a glacier into the side of the Dragonspine Mountains centuries ago. It is circular in shape and is over three hundred feet in diameter. Though it was crudely shaped by the forces of nature, it is not without its comforts. A mahogany table sits in one corner, overflowing with various scrolls and papers. A comfortable sofa is nearby for use by tired or injured guests. On another table are various appetizers and delicacies, with enough variety to please any human or demi human. Invisible servants roam about and keep the den clean and habitable while a magic mouth set in the wall acts as a secretary.

Karisin's Testing Room

This room is completely barren save for a few craters in the ground and the occasional bloodstain. Someone or something appears to be keeping this place clean for who knows what purpose. A sign is posted on the southern wall.

A Wooded Trail

A wooded trail cutting its way through the forest gradually turns into a smooth dirt path. The trees are more numerous here and their tops reach for the heavens. Plenty of light still filters through the treetops however. The sounds of small forest animals fill the air here and wild flowers grow unchecked on the edges of the path. The trail continues deeper into the forest to the west.

A Wooded Trail

The trail leads through the forest in a north-south direction. To the north the trail opens up onto a small road and winds through the trees to the south. A small path leads to the east off the main trail. The trail here is partially covered with twigs and leaves but it is relatively clear.

A Trail Through the Forest

The path becomes nearly impossible to stay on as it curves and weaves through the maples and oaks. However, to veer off the trail means getting lost in the forest, or worse. The trees in this part of the woods are very healthy and robust as they show no signs of disease. Beautiful wild flowers and weeds alike grow on the sides of the dirt trail, adding color and variety. Honeybees and butterflies fly back and forth among the flowers while chipmunks scurry around picking up nuts that have fallen from the trees.

A Trail Through the Forest

The trail here winds in from the north and splits off into three directions, heading west, south, and east. There is just enough room to squeeze through in those directions but otherwise the towering trees block further passage. To the west, some strange hooting sounds can be heard in the distance. The dirt has many hoof and foot prints here as a result of the many people who travel this path.

A Grove of Trees

In this part of the forest the trees have been cleared to leave a small grove. It is very quiet except for some strange sounds coming from the south and west. The grove is empty except for a crystal clear pool of water at the center. Animals from all over the forest come here to drink and tracks in the grass and dirt are all over the place. The trail continues south deeper into the forest while another path leads to the east. High above in the trees a songbird whistles a love tune while chipmunks chase each other around the grove.

Deeper Into the Forest

This part of the forest is much darker than the rest of the forest and the trail has seen little travel. The trees here do not seem as lively and not a single animal can be seen or heard. The trail leads back north into a lighter part of the forest and fades into some bushes to the west. It is very silent here, a stark contrast to the rest of the forest. Several humanoid tracks can be made out in the dirt leading to the west.

Open Clearing

The trail from the east emerges from the bushes and fades into an open clearing. The ground is barren here with no signs of grass growing. The trees here are tall and skinny and completely encircle the clearing, almost as if it were a fence. Many bones and decomposed skeletons lie around here, some of whose type cannot be readily identified. The only way out of the clearing is back through the bushes to the east. The arrangement of the trees makes it ideal for an ambush.

In the Heart of the Forest

The woods here are thick as this is the heart of the forest south of Daleville. It is filled with the noises and songs of animals and birds and the trees are lush green with leaves. The trail here does not seem used often by merchants and travelers but there is no shortage of wild animal tracks. Nearby there is one particularly large tree which appears to be climbable. Soft hooting can be heard from that tree as well as others in this area. The trail branches to the south towards a small grove of trees.

The Owl Tree

This is one of the largest trees in the Dales as it towers nearly a hundred feet straight up. It has become the home of many creatures, who either dart or fly around. Many bird nests are visible from this point and chipmunks run along the trees. On a nearby branch, a line of owls sits quietly contemplating. To the far north, the town of Daleville is visible and one can almost make out individual people moving around. To the far south the small town of Mistledale sits near the river Ashaba while the trees of the Elven Court are far to the east.

A Trail at the Edge of the Forest

The forest begins to thin out as the trail cuts a path from the north to the south. More light seeps through the forest canopy as there are fewer trees. To the east lies a small grove of trees while the open dale is to the south. There are many wheel marks and foot prints in the dirt here, suggesting that this is a fairly traveled path. To the north, the trail winds into the heart of the forest. Birds fly amongst the trees, chirping and singing.

A Secluded Grove

This is another small grove surrounded by guardian-like trees that can be found in this forest. Small animals and birds move back and forth and it is quiet here as if everything were at peace. A trail leads out of the grove to the north and to the west. Near the center are the remains of several campfires and branches. The air here is moist and damp and the dew beaded on the grass glistens brightly.

On the Open Dale

A dirt trail from the north emerges from the forest and out on to the vast expanse of the Dales. The trail is much wider now and there are numerous wagon tracks and footprints. It weaves in and out of flowing grassy hills and continues to the south. The river Ashaba flows to the west of here from the north to the south. Its current is too strong to swim or wade through and numerous fish can be seen swimming. The air is very fresh and clean and the openness gives a very peaceful and serene feeling.

The Countryside of Mistledale

Small dirt trails leading in from the south and west intersect here and break down into a grassy plain. It is quiet here except for the sounds of wildlife going on with their lives. The trail heads back west and to the south and to the north and east the forest is so thick it is unpassable.

The Countryside of Mistledale

A heavily used trail winds its way north and south through the countryside. Wild animals are numerous here, with horses and deer freely roaming the hills. The sound of the Ashaba river flowing nearby to the west is very soothing. The dale continues its wide expanse to the east while to the west beyond the river, the trees of the Elven Court are visible.

The Countryside of Mistledale

There is no trail in this part of the countryside as it slowly breaks down into lush green grass. It is possible to move in any direction except to the east, where a forest has grown extremely thick. Wild plants and crops have grown unchecked here, with some patches of corn and wheat all over. A herd of deer stands nearby foraging among the wild crops.

The Countryside of Mistledale

A partially paved trail cuts through the dale to the north and south parallel to the river Ashaba. To the east lies more of the countryside and a forest. The sounds of wildlife and the strong flowing river fill the air here. Far off to the east, if one looks very carefully, the ruins of Myth Drannor can be made out.

The Countryside of Mistledale

There is no trail in this part of the countryside as it slowly breaks down into a grassy plain. It is possible to move to the west where the trail leading to the town of Mistledale forms or to the north towards another part of the countryside. Trees block passage in other directions and it is not possible to traverse them. Wild plants grow unchecked here as many of the animals of the dales have learned where they grow.

The Countryside of Mistledale

The trail continues in from the north and heads south towards the town of Mistledale. To the west lies the river Ashaba which flows very strongly in these parts. A grove of trees can be seen to the east, some of the trees having been cut down. The sounds of civilization are more prevalent here and there are not so many animal sounds as other parts of the dales. The countryside starts to fade here as it approaches the town.

Near Some Fallen Trees

The trail by the Ashaba river branches off towards this small grove of trees and ends abruptly. Many of the trees have been cut down with axes and saws, some of them are no more than tiny stumps. At the end of the grove is a large pile of firewood someone has cut and there are traces of campfires about this area. This looks like a good place to rest as the river is nearby and wood for a fire is abundant. The only passage out of the grove is the dirt trail leading west.

Outside the Town of Mistledale

From the north, a dirt trail winds its way through the dale and stops outside the town of Mistledale. This area north of the town has been cleared and the ground is flat with several rings of stones for campfires. The town is situated on the eastern bank of the Ashaba river, which provides the town with water and fish. There are several caravans and wagons here, many of which have stopped for a break along their journey. A paved road leads south towards the entrance to Mistledale.

Northern Outskirts of Mistledale

The road here leads south directly to the northern gate of Mistledale. There is a fence that runs around the perimeter of the town made of wood and stones with stakes on top, making it very difficult to pass into town. The river to the west still flows too strongly to make wading a safe alternative. In the distance, several smoke trails in the sky mark the residences of the village and people can be seen walking around beyond the entrance.

Entrance to the Town of Mistledale

This is the only entrance into the town from the north as a fence has been constructed to prevent access from the river to the west to the woods in the east. There is a large wooden gate that is currently open but could be closed at a moment's notice if need be. Guards walk in and out of the gate and the perimeter of the fence frequently. To the south, a paved road leads into Main Street while to the north lies the open countryside.

Corner of Main Street

The street here comes in from the north at the town entrance and makes a bend here to the east. The road is kept clean and there are many tracks in the ground showing the high amount of use Main Street gets. The barracks can be seen to the east and to the south is a small copse of trees fenced off to preserve them. It is relatively quiet here, with only the occasional conversation going on between two passing citizens.

Main Street Outside the Barracks

The main street of this town runs from west to east here, with the Mistledale barracks to the north. Both ordinary citizens and soldiers are moving back and forth from within the barracks and outside on the street. Everyone seems to be in a hurry as they go from one place to another and loud voices can be heard from the barracks.

Mistledale Barracks

This dull colored building was designed to house the soldiers of the Mistledale guard. On the western wall are racks of swords, spears, and shields while on the eastern wall are rows of cots and beds. The northern end of the barracks has been converted into a makeshift kitchen. In the center of the room is a huge table with a map of Mistledale spread out over it. People are rushing back and forth as the barracks is a hotbed of activity. The only exit is to the south.

Corner of Main Street

As Main Street comes in from the west, it makes a bend here and heads south toward the center of town. To the near south, a bunch of children are running around in the street, laughing and giggling, carefree and unconcerned with the problems which have recently plagued Mistledale. There are a number of houses close by and people are out tending their gardens or hanging their clothes to dry. A wagon laden with goods from a distant city rumbles by as it heads to a trading post in another part of town.

Main Street

Here the street leads in a north to south direction, with the town square to the south. Several toys are laying around in the street as if they were used and then forgotten to be picked up. To the west is a small cozy-looking building with display windows in front. There are many toys and dolls in the windows, ranging from puzzle pieces to large wooden dolls.

Felstrith's Toy Store

This building used to be a large home but it has been converted into a small toy factory by its owner. There are dolls and figurines everywhere on benches and stools and in the display window. A large carpeted area has been set aside in the center so children can come in and play with the toys. Felstrith has placed his workbench out in the open so others can see him turn a block of wood into a wonderful wind-up doll. The only exit is to the east back onto the street.

Main Street

This is a paved though slightly dirty road that runs north and south through the heart of Mistledale. The road continues south towards the town square and leads back north away from town. To the west, a small temple of Lathander has been built and praying can be heard from inside. There is a steady flow of people coming in and out of the temple, some in tears, many solemn faced, others apparently still in prayer.

The Temple of Lathander

The temple of Lathander has always been one of the most popular places in town as many of the citizens here worship the Morninglord. This temple is not very large but it is well decorated and has lots of room for people to come in and worship. There are many seats available here and there is a large altar at the far end of the temple. However, the temple has recently suffered the loss of their high priest, who disappeared when he went down into the sewers underneath the village to investigate reports of horrible creatures down there. Many of the priests here are praying for his safe return.

Town Square of Mistledale

The town square is the center of activity for Mistledale, with lots of citizens walking in and out, either chatting or performing some errand. It is lined with stones on all sides and has gates to allow access to Main Street and the Ashaba Road. To the south lies a tavern, and the River Ashaba lies to the far west. An immense maple tree has grown precisely in the center of town which towers high above, producing a lot of shade for the square.

Ashaba Road

The Ashaba Road runs in an east to west direction here, leading away from the town square and towards the River Ashaba. The road here is a bit damp due to the proximity of the river and parts of it have turned muddy. The road is fenced in to the north and south preventing travel that way. To the south the outside of the Singing Spectre Inn and Tavern can be seen while the building housing the temple of Lathander is to the north.

On Ashaba Road Near the Old Well

The road is fenced on both sides as it travels west and east to mark the end of the roadside and the beginning of private homes and farms. The dirt road feels slightly muddy as it approaches the Ashaba river which lies to the west. In the middle of the road is a stone well that has grown moldy through disuse. The turn handle and bucket have long since broken off and the town has abandoned this well for others. The well looks wide enough to climb down into though it doesn't look safe with the walls being very slippery.

A Washed Out Bridge

Ashaba Road ends here as it meets up with the river running to the west of town. There is a wooden bridge that allows crossing of the river to a trail to the west. Unfortunately, a recent flood has washed out the bridge so it is not possible to continue to the west. The dirt here is very wet and muddy with relatively few foot and hoof prints. To the east, the road passes by an old stone well and continues into town.

Main Street

This street runs north from the center of town and south towards the southern gate of Mistledale. It is paved like the other roads in town and there are many people who walk along the sides. However, this part of Main Street is much noisier due to the tavern that lies directly to the west. A sign above the tavern reads, 'The Singing Spectre' and people can be seen inside. To the south, there seems to be a disturbance.

End of Main Street

Main Street leads towards the southern gate of town and ends. Beyond the gate, a well travelled path leads out of the town perimeter and out into the dales. To the north lies the town while the inn is to the northwest. Most of the residents of town seem to be giving this area a wide berth, avoiding the southern gate when possible. Those that do venture nearby seem to be in a rush.

The Singing Spectre Tavern

The Singing Spectre Tavern is a very busy place as people walk in and out at a constant pace. A counter has been built right in the middle of the large common room where a halfling bartender serves drinks. There are tables and stools on both sides of the room where people can drink away the problems that plague them or just have a good time. The tavern gets its name from an old myth that a lost spectre wanders the tavern and inn at night and sings songs from back when the elves still flourished in the dales. No one has substantiated the legend - however, it is one the folk of Mistledale enjoy keeping alive. A staircase leads up to the inn.

The Singing Spectre Inn

This is the second floor of the Singing Spectre and the ruckus of the tavern downstairs is very faint, thanks to some magical spells placed here. Though not as renowned as the Old Skull in Daleville, many travelers and merchants make it a point to spend a night here because of its coziness and friendliness of the staff. There have been reports that at night one can hear singing from a ghostly apparition but no one has confirmed or denied that rumor.

A Backyard Farm

Behind the tavern is a small plot of farmland used to grow some vegetables and fruits. There are many rows of carrots, potatoes, and other vegetables that are quietly growing here. The fenced in farm continues to the south a bit where there is little more than grass. Someone has set up a milking station here, with a stool and partially filled milk buckets. The only way out of here is back into the tavern to the east.

A Backyard Farm

This small fenced area is covered with thick green grass, perfect for grazing by farm animals. To the north and east is the tavern while the river can be seen to the west. The fence blocks passage to the west where the river flows. A soft mooing can be heard from all directions.

Ashaba Road

Ashaba Road continues in a west to east direction here, with people moving back and forth at a hurried pace. A small wooden building is to the north with a sign nailed on the front. The dirt has been heavily scored with tracks from passing caravans and it throws a thin cloud of dust in the air all about.

Thraxl's Goods Store

This is a small wooden building with shelves in every conceivable place. There is a huge variety of equipment arrayed on the shelves ranging from torches to backpacks. The ceiling is low and many people have to bend down to avoid bumping their heads. On the far side of the store a counter has been setup where people pay for their purchases. Standing behind the counter (just barely) is a gnome in orange. The only way out of the building is the door to the south.

End of the Ashaba Road

The road from the west ends here and gradually fades into the forest of the Elven Court, making it impossible to continue east. To the south lies the elegant home of the Mayor of Mistledale, though the door to the home has been shattered into pieces. A few dried blood stains are visible in the dirt here, and there are obvious signs of a struggle. Back to the west, the center of town can be seen from here.

Mayor's Residence

The home of the Mayor of Mistledale is the most elegant of them all. However, something has turned this wonderful house into a wreck. Chairs and tables are overturned, windows have been shattered, and pillows have been ripped to shreds. A tapestry on one wall emblazoned with a silver serpent has been reduced to ribbons. Nothing was left unturned and it seemed as if someone was looking for something. More disturbingly, there are claw marks and bloodstains by the Mayor's bedroom. The only part of the home that seems intact is a wooden panel on the southern end of the house.

A Secret Room

This room looks as if it hasn't been touched in years. Everything is covered in dust, including the panel leading in and out of the room. The floor is covered in a thin film that leaves footprints in it. Mounted on all the walls are various trophies the Mayor must have obtained over the years. On the east wall, there is the preserved head of a red dragon and on the west wall there is a set of full plate armor and a sword. The only way back out is through the panel to the rest of the house.

In the Old Well

Leading down into the sewers underneath the town, this well provided water for its residents many years ago but now serves little purpose. The stone walls are covered in green mold and extremely slippery. The stones have been worn so smooth over the passing of time that there are no footholds and climbing up or down would be dangerous. The rope and bucket can be seen on the ground about ten feet below.

Bottom of the Well

It is very quiet here save for the steady dripping of water on the walls. The sides of the well were broken down and made part of an old sewer system many years ago. A little light comes through from the seemingly distant top of the well above. Two roughly carved tunnels lead south and east but no light emanates from them. Perhaps it would be wise to bring a light to continue on.

A Sewer Tunnel

This is an old sewer tunnel that was constructed decades ago underneath what is now Mistledale. Although abandoned for a long time, the round tunnel walls are for the most part intact. To the north the remnants of the old town well are buried in the water. A thin shaft of light can be seen emanating from the well entrance. The sewer water is about ankle high here and very cloudy with dirt. Small unidentifiable objects float around in the water, perhaps they are best left unidentified. The squeaking of rats echoes down the tunnel which continues south.

A Sewer Tunnel

The sound of water dripping echoes throughout here as the tunnel continues north and south. Rats scurry about the edges of the water and their incessant echoing squeaks make it difficult to make out any other noise. The walls here are very damp and moldy making them unpleasant to the touch, however they are still intact and have kept out worse contaminants. There is almost no light here, what little comes through is from the way north at the ancient well.

A Curve in the Sewer Tunnel

A sharp bend in the tunnel here suddenly changes the flow of the sewer water eastward. The change is rather abrupt and a lot of what floats in the sewage has washed up on the southern edge. Its contents are dimly visible and even then it doesn't look very appealing. A splash in the water makes your head turn and a very large sewer rat emerges from the east and heads north at a quick pace, as if it were running. In that direction, the tunnel opens up into a large stone chamber.

A Large Smelly Chamber

The sewer tunnel opens up into a very large chamber that is about thirty feet wide. The ceiling is enshrouded in mist due to the high humidity of this chamber. A strong odor of decay and death permeates everything here. In one corner of the chamber lies a large stack of bones, some of small animals, others from larger creatures. There is a large mound of filth right in the middle and it appears to be the source of the noxious smells. The only way out of here is either to the east or the west.

A Broken Tunnel

This is an intersection of two sewer tunnels that junction at this point. However, the southern wall of the tunnel has crumbled away, leading towards what appears to be a section of the sewers that was never connected to this area. To the north, a small passage has been dug in the dirt and stone. The ceiling of that passage is very low, making it uncomfortable to enter for all but the smallest people. The tunnel continues to the east and gently begins to slope downwards in that direction.

A Sloping Tunnel

Past the junction, this tunnel begins to slope downwards deeper into the ground. The water moves at a faster pace due to the decline where it junctions with an underground stream to the east. To the southwest, this tunnel has collapsed partly and there is an opening visible which is large enough to fit through. The mold here is substantially less than other parts of the sewer, most likely because the sewage here moves at a faster rate.

An Underground Stream

This underground stream appears to be crystal clear at first but at close inspection it is very cloudy. Small bits of sewer waste and decaying matter sweep in from a small crack under the tunnel to the west. The current is very strong and it is not possible to make anything out in the water. A stone tunnel lies to the north headed towards another part of the sewers while the stream flows eastwards.

Bend in the Underground Stream

A fast flowing stream comes in from the west and makes a sharp bend here, creating many small swirls and eddies. The walls here are damp and the ceiling has lowered considerably. The stream is shallow enough to wade but the force of the current would sweep any person up. If one were flying or on a boat, it would be possible to go west against the flow towards a junction of two tunnels. Otherwise, the stream continues northwards into darkness.

An Underground Stream

A dark stream enters in from the south and heads north from here. On the side of the stream a small ledge rises out of the water where small animal corpses have washed up. The sound of a waterfall comes from the north. The stream has increased in speed here making it more difficult to escape the current.

A Pool of Water

A large stream of water cascades into a waterfall and descends into this deep and large pool of water. A musty air fills the area here as the water does not circulate and becomes stagnant. The air makes it very hard to see anything as the mist refracts light in all directions. At first there is no movement in the water but then a small wake begins to encircle the pool... The only way out of this chamber is to the west where a ramp of stone rises out and leads into a tunnel.

A Damp Intersection

At this junction in the sewers a small ramp opens up in the wall to the east. Beyond that ramp lies a rather large pool of sewer water. Some thrashing sounds can be heard to the east and strangely all the tracks in the ground here from the denizens of the underground only go in one direction. Many tracks can be made out heading towards the pool yet not a single set leads away. The tunnel continues north and south as the other possible exits.

A Sloping Tunnel

This tunnel slopes downwards rather steeply as it heads to what sounds like a stream that runs underneath the surface. It is very slippery here and one might slip and fall if precautions are not taken. All the sewage here flows down the tunnel towards the stream, the level of the sewage is higher than in other sections. The tunnel leads back north towards a more level tunnel.

A Bend in the Tunnel

There is a bend in the tunnel which curves to the south here. The corner where the eastern tunnel intersects with the southern tunnel was crudely constructed and bits of the material used to seal the two sections together has decayed away. Insects and other creatures of the soil seep through and infest this area of the sewers. The corpse of a rat has washed up on the side of the tunnel, covered with a colony of ants and maggots. Based on the size of the corpse, the rats here seem to be much larger than the variety found on the surface.

A Sewer Tunnel

This section of the sewer tunnels running under Mistledale is very dry compared to other sections. There is very little mold on the walls and the air is not humid. The sewage seems to run into the ground here through many cracks in the bottom and the solid parts have caked up on the bottom of the tunnel here. There is a very large crack in the wall to the north and the opening is large enough for a person to squeeze through. The sewer continues to the east and the west.

A Warm, Dry Cave

A small wind blows through this natural cavern that seems to have been created a long time ago. The yellow rocky walls here are very dry with no mildew or mold that exists in the sewers. The cave is very warm, especially the ground which would seem to indicate a naturally occurring heat source that is keeping this area very warm. To the south is an old sewer tunnel made from stone with a large crack in one wall. To the west there is a narrow gap between a pair of stalagmites which leads deeper into the cave.

A Warm, Dry Cave

This is a small, dry cave formed from a yellowish rock which glows, casting a soft yellow light here. Of course, the rock itself does not glow as the mold and fungus on the rock are the source of the glow. A dry wind blows in from between a pair of large stalagmites to the east. There is a recess to the north, where it seems something has made a nest out of pieces of wood.

The Snake Nest

A snake nest has been constructed and is nestled right in the center of this small recess from the main cavern. Judging by the size of the nest, about six feet in diameter, it must have been a very large snake. The nest itself is made from pieces of driftwood that must have washed in among the sewage. The air here is very stagnant and humid, a contrast to the area just to the south. There is a strange sickly sweet smell here too which combined with the humidity makes it hard to breathe. The decaying bones of some large animal are scattered around here with rotting flesh still hanging from some of them. The only exit from this place is back to the south.

A Sewer Tunnel

The sewer tunnel continues from west to east here. Mold and mildew covers the sides of the tunnel, making it glistening and slippery looking in the torch light. The sewer water here has partially dried out, leaving a blackish mud all over the bottom. Sounds of a waterfall echo in the distance. To the south, the wall has been demolished and a passage can be made out heading in that direction.

A Low Passage

Small rocks are strewn all over this low passage whose ceiling is about half that of the rest of the sewers. A wide assortment of different colored fungi grows everywhere here, making for an interesting show of colors. Tiny stalactites grow from the ceiling and tiny droplets of water drip from them. It is very difficult to move around here and the passage only continues on to the south. A break in a stone wall leads to the sewers north of here.

A Low Passage

This passage continues to the north and opens back up into a tunnel to the south. A soft light brightens the passage from all the fluorescent fungus and mold that grows on the walls and ceiling. In one small recess, the corpses of several sewer rats are rotting away. Tiny white maggots swarm all over them like a white blanket, feasting on the decaying flesh. The steady drip of water falling from stalactites in the ceiling is the only other noise here.

A Sewer Tunnel

This tunnel used to carry sewage away into the Ashaba river years ago, now it is little more than the home of numerous rats and sewer snakes. Although old, the tunnel walls are still intact and sewage still flows throughout the system. The water is dark and contains many small objects that bob in and out of the water. A shaft of light penetrates the darkness to the west where an old well leads back into town. The squeaking of rats echoes down the tunnel to the east.

A Broken Tunnel

A tunnel carved from what appears to be granite leads off to the south. It appears to be naturally made and older than the tunnels constructed for sewage. Immediately to the north there is a large hole allowing access to the sewers. Chunks of dull grey granite are scattered over the ground here. The air here is very cool and dry. It must be quite a ways under the ground here. The walls are very solid, providing no other exits other than north and south.

A Four Way Intersection

There is a crossroad of two granite tunnels here with exits leading off in every major direction. The sound of water can be heard to the east. A dried pool of blood rests in the middle of the intersection, but there is no corpse. There are claw marks on the walls ranging from scratches to deep cuts in the granite. To the west, the passage continues off into the darkness.

A Granite Tunnel

Solid granite forms the walls of this tunnel as it continues in a eastern to western direction. To the west there appears to be a dead end, but it seems to have been made into a lair of some kind. It is much warmer here than to the east. The walls are absent of claw marks, though several corpses of sewer rats litter this area.

A Lizard's Lair

This is a dead end, with miles of solid granite rock making up the west wall, pocked with holes. Small nests fill the many nooks and crannies in the walls and floor. Suddenly, a small lizard about the size of a rabbit darts out from a corner, zooms under your legs and disappears into a crack in the western wall. On a closer look, there are tunnel lizards everywhere, as this must be their lair. Being cold blooded, the very warm environment in this area is favorable to the lizards. The only exit is back to the east.

A Granite Tunnel

The sound of water echoes throughout this tunnel carved from solid granite. To the east, the tunnel opens up into a larger chamber, also borne from solid granite. There is a huge hole in the ground up ahead which exposes an underground lake. Dark forms occasionally move towards the water and then away, the darkness makes it hard to make out what those forms are. The air here is cool and damp, and a faint mist conceals what lies up ahead. To the west this tunnel intersects with a north-south tunnel.

At the Edge of A Subterranean Lake

In the center of this large underground chamber lies a deep dark lake. The granite walls are moist from the mist that envelops everything. The lake is remarkably clear and refreshing, and from the large number of tracks in the ground all around the lake, the water is drinkable. A small lizard scurries towards the edge of the lake to take a drink then quickly runs back into the protection of the shadows. There are passages that lead from the lake to the north and east, but they are covered in what appears to be bear tracks. The tunnel west leads back away from the lake while going south would mean going for a swim.

A Dark Lair

This tunnel leads away from the lake into a lair covered with the bones of eaten animals. There is a decaying smell that emanates from the north, deeper into the lair. Scratch marks cover the granite walls as if some animal were sharpening its claws for a feast. Tracks cover the ground here, leading to and back from the lake to the west. There is a large granite column to the northwest that neatly divides this lair into a circular shape. The lair continues further in to the north.

A Dark Lair

The skeletons of several animals are strewn throughout this lair ranging in size from a small rat to something disturbingly human. It is almost pitch black here with no light sources nearby save that which are brought in from the outside. In the northeast corner of this granite cave are the remains of several small mammals and fish. The stench from the pile of rotting flesh is almost overwhelming, perhaps the only worse thing that could happen are the residents of this lair returning. A large column of granite rises out of the ground to the southwest, leaving only south and west as possible exits.

A Dark Lair

The tunnel leads into a smelly lair that is covered in the bones of small animals and fish. A hideous stench comes in from the east. Tracks made by a bear-like animal are all over the floor and the placement of the tracks indicate that whatever made them also sleeps here. It is very warm and humid due to the lake, which can be seen to the south. There are no other ways out except further into the lair or south to the lake.

A Subterranean Lake

This lake was formed ages ago by a glacier moving through this area and carving out this huge underground crater. Water from the Ashaba River has seeped through the ground over the years and turned this crater into a subterranean lake. The water here is cool and refreshing, with moss growing on the granite edges. Small fish about the size of a finger dart back and forth looking to feed. Over time, the lake has completely risen to the ceiling level, making it necessary to swim. The lake continues to the east and south while a tunnel to the north leads away.

A Subterranean Lake

As the lake rises to meet the ceiling, the waters envelop everything. A school of tiny fish swims by, creating a gentle wave that sweeps through. It is very dark here, however, and the bottom of the lake is muddy and clouded. The walls are more rocky here with crevices and cracks everywhere, a contrast to the smooth granite tunnels leading here. There is nothing but water all around.

A Subterranean Lake

Water fills the entire area here, leaving no air pocket in which to breathe. The dark and murky depths seem to conceal small shapes which move back and forth. The sides of the lake are more rocky now, with several sharp rocks jutting out. It is deathly quiet here, the normal background sounds of life are absent. The lake continues on to the north and the west.

A Subterranean Lake

The water is very still here save for small eddies formed by stones and gravel. Little light reaches this portion of the lake as it is completely underground. At the bottom of the lake, the corpse of some large animal, presumably drowned, is being eaten by small creatures. As the creatures scatter at your sudden presence, a small piece of cloth floats by. Judging by the type and design of the cloth, it belonged to someone very elegantly dressed. The walls are bumpy and jagged here, with one large rock blocking what appears to be a passage in the eastern wall.

A Hidden Cave

A narrow natural tunnel leads eastwards then up into this hidden cave. The cave walls are rocky and uneven with a short ceiling. It is very stuffy and smoky in here as if someone were burning a torch. In the center of the cave a campfire is on its last embers. One area of the cave has been cleared of rocks and could possibly serve as a sleeping area. This cave must be above the lake as no water pours in. A large rock seals off the tunnel to the west, the only exit from here.

A Granite Tunnel

This featureless stretch of tunnel connects two intersections, one just to the north and another further south. Bits of granite on the ground echo a crunching sound as weight is applied to them. The air is warm and heavy here. A thin trail of blood leads to the south.

Another Four Way Intersection

The north-south tunnel intersects with a series of passages here. To the east a narrow rocky passage cuts into the tunnel and winds its way east. Another passage leads west into what appears to be a large cavern, although the darkness makes it hard to make out what or who may be in there. A trail of blood leads in from the north and makes a sharp turn into the western cavern. A fourth passage leads southwards.

Northeast Corner of a Cavern

This is a large cavern of solid rock that has been dug from the ground here. Several rocks have been removed from the wall forming a passage to the east that leads out of the cave into a granite tunnel. Other directions lead deeper into this cavern. There is little light here and several pairs of red eyes glare from the shadows. The blood trail is thicker now and heads to the west.

Northwest Corner of a Cavern

The trail of blood finally ends in a large pool of dried blood. Some bones and bits of flesh are in the center of the pool but there are no other traces of whatever it was. To the south a large pile of rocks sit in an unusual formation while a thin shaft of dim light comes in from the east. A rat squeals loudly in the corner as it engages in a tug-of-war battle with a larger rat over a meaty bone.

Southwest Corner of a Cavern

In the corner of this part of the cavern, a pile of rocks have been put together to resemble a throne. There are pieces of polished bone and carved rock arranged in a semicircle where the front of the throne would be. The rocks themselves appear to be stained in dried blood. All of a sudden, a frenzied snorting sound fills the room then quiets down to a sniffing. There is a loud squeal from a rat, then it abruptly ends. The cavern extends further north and east and a faint light can be seen to the northeast.

Southeast Corner of a Cavern

The walls here are made of solid rock and roughly carved as razor sharp pieces of rock jut out. Blood and fur covers some of the points and there are signs of a struggle here. The ground is very clean in comparison to the rest of the cavern, there are no rocks or bloodstains on the floor. To the west, a pile of rocks sit in the far corner in a strange shape and to the north a passage leads out of the cavern.

A Twisting Tunnel

A narrow rock tunnel twists and turns in an easterly direction. Bits of rock crumble from the wall and smash against the ground as they are disturbed by passers by. The ceiling looks as if it could collapse at any moment. Gradually the tunnel twists to the south and a faint light can be seen in that direction. The only other exit is west towards the tunnels.

A Rocky Cave

Eventually the twisting passage opens up into a small cave filled with a soft light. Roughly shaped candles are placed at regular intervals around the perimeter. Many of the rocks littering the cave have been heaped together into a table on the southern side. The rocks are powdery and spray a fine dust into the air every time the walls or floor are disturbed. The symbol of Lathander is etched into the walls with a soft chalky rock. The only way out of the cave is to the north.

A Rocky Tunnel

The walls and floor of this tunnel are very rocky, the floor is little more than a jumble of stones. Navigating through here is tricky at best and those who try to run through will most likely get tripped up. The skeleton of some person is propped up against one wall with several sharp spikes embedded throughout its body and skull. Strangely, there are holes in the sides of the tunnel at regular intervals, some with blood around them. The tunnel leads south into a dead end.

A Rocky Passage

Though this passage may seem to be a dead end from the north, two exits are concealed by the rocks. They head east and west, each one being completely enveloped in darkness. There are several claw marks on the smooth parts of the walls here, accompanied by shreds of clothing and broken teeth. Soft growls echo throughout and the sounds of feet crunching over rocks are nearby. The tunnel leads back north towards an intersection in the distance.

A Rocky Passage

Rocks and sharp stalagmites are littered throughout this passage making it difficult to move around. A rockfall has blocked a tunnel leading westwards but another one to the south remains clear. Bloodstains and claw marks adorn the walls, the pattern indicates a big struggle took place. The only other exit is to the east.

A Rocky Passage

Rocks and sharp stalagmites are littered throughout this passage making it difficult to move around. A trail of blood leads to an even larger pool of blood collected in a small hole in the ground. Bloodstains and claw marks are present on the walls, as if two monsters were engaged in a bloody battle. The passage leads to the north and to the east.

A Jumble of Stones

Twisting and rocky paths come in from the east and west and intersect in a small chamber. The chamber has been roughly carved from solid rock and the walls of the chamber are covered in sharp edged stones. In the center someone has left a large pile of gray stones of various shapes and sizes. There is no particular arrangement to the jumble, they appear to have been gathered together in a rush. A smaller chamber lies to the south connected by an archway.

A Circle of Stones

This small alcove is completely covered in blood stains and scratch marks. Death and decay waft through this room. On the ground is a circle of stones that surround a stone throne. The throne itself is not remarkable, as it is made from a number of stones placed together. However, the rock walls are covered in various trophies, ranging from polished skulls to suits of armor and weapons. An archway to the north leads to a larger chamber.

A Rocky Passage

Rocks and sharp stalagmites are littered throughout this passage making it difficult to move around. Bones are scattered throughout here, some having been crushed into a fine powder. Most of the bones belong to small animals and rodents though a few are distinctly humanoid. A human skull has been impaled on a nearby stalagmite, possibly to serve as a warning. The passage leaves to the north and west.

A Rocky Passage

Rocks and sharp stalagmites are littered throughout this passage making it difficult to move around. A skeleton is sitting quietly in the northeast corner on a rock, sword and lantern still in hand. The sword has rusted so badly it is unusable and the lantern is smashed beyond use. There is a narrow gap leading to another tunnel to the west and the passage continues to the south.
