The central focus of this incredible entry way is a large crystalline spiral staircase. The walls are decorated with large ornate tapestries, depicting all aspects of Elven life. Many Moon Elf heroes of renown are portrayed in acts of heroism. A central tapestry depicts the Elven King Milhanhous slaying the Red Dragon Fristsmoth. The great gate is to the east. The crystalline spiral staircase goes up into this massive Treehome.
The crystalline staircase spirals up through a landing that has been thoroughly trashed. Half-eaten animal carcasses, beds of swamp grass and slimy garbage lie everywhere, the tapestries are ripped and torn and the windows broken. Crude creatures have plainly taken up living in this ancient place. A crude message bars the way up, and the stairs wind back down to the great gate's hall below.
The Crystalline Spiral Staircase continues up and down from this beautifully decorated landing. Tapestries hang from the walls in stark contrast to the trash thrown around. Hallways go to the east and west. On the north wall a crude sign has been hung. There is a tavern for the officials and their patrons to the south.
This comfortable little tavern is run by Emfarnnar just for the officials and their customers. The owner is a harsh sounding old warrior who likes to tell a good story about his adventuring. The central piece of furniture is a large well kept bar he brought back from a foreign province.
The destruction here is massive. Parts of Treehome are literally blown away leaving great holes in this ancient dwelling of the Moon Elf race. Here and there bits and pieces of the grandeur can be seen but mostly just ruin and chaos. There is evidence of some repair but it is of a patchwork nature and certainly not beautiful in any way. The beauty of the crystal staircase shines from the east and the hallway stretches west.
The wood work of the ancients is ruined in most spots here. The sky can even be seen through the walls in some spots. The grandiose splendor of the past is lost, and ruin is all that remains. Which is only made worse by the smell of refuse and the soiled walls. The hallway and the destruction continues east and west.
This is a huge area where several hallways meet to form an intersection. As in a lot of places this seems to be a site of battle. A pile of furniture was crammed in here only to be burnt and pushed away. A great battle was lost here at great expense. The pristine murals and ornate decor which at one time covered this area are no more, and the walls are covered with ash and soot. It makes one wonder if you should be here.
This area of the tree seems to be untouched by the madness around it. The beauty left by this ancient race still remains. The art and decor of the time still retain its beauty and glamour. The murals in this part of the hallway depict the church in its daily routines, healing the sick comforting the infirm.
The High Clerist meets his guests here. The office is austere and very well kept. There is a massive desk and a chair in the center of the room. The desk is clean and organized as if the Clerist knew things needed to be finished up and ordered quickly. The room seems to shimmer as if there was someone standing here.
This small private chapel is like an island of safety in the middle of a storm, because it seems to be untouched by all the chaos around it. The god to whom this is dedicated must be a caring god because of the warmth and peace you feel here. There is a small altar in the front of the room covered with candles of all sizes. The room is filled with cushions to sit and kneel on.
It is obvious something big came through here the walls are buckled and huge claw marks have raked the ceilings. This must have been a beautiful place at one time but now it is smelly and in ruin. The rank garbage makes one wonder about the current residents. The Hall of Justice is to the north.
The Hall of Justice has sustained a lot of fire damage from some unknown source, but that is nothing compared to the rubbish and filth just thrown everywhere. The walls are smeared with a brown slime of some unknown origin. The Chair of Justice has been turned into a make shift throne for the current king.
In times of peace and prosperity this would have been the meeting room for elfs who had complaints against the system, and those who might be punished for crimes against the system. It was a place where exotic foods would have been lavished on people by servants and such. Now it is just a place for the current residents to eat and drink. There are chunks of of food stuffs of unknown content and huge piles of discarded casks and kegs.
This burnt out area was the office of the Chief Justice. Once his desk would have been covered with papers, all having something to do with crimes against the Treehome. The room has now become a sleeping area for some strange creature. A pile of furs has been thrown in the northern corner, and spears and clubs are laying around.
The world seems much larger from this high vantage point. The city of Elf Shadow and the plains beyond can be seen clearly. The tree is just bare enough to allow visibility but dense enough to keep out the world. The only way out is back into the meeting room.
The hallway used to be decorated with fine murals and statues, now it is used as a place to throw refuse. Even so the art of the ancients is breathtaking in all its splendor, murals of wildlife of every kind cavorting about with each other. The hallway ends to the west on the landing of an immense crystal staircase. To the east the hallway seems to be wasted by a fireball of some sort. Large claws have raked the wall.
The ruin continues down this hallway. It looks like war hit this place hard. The scorched walls have blank spots where swords and other weapons hung. The charred murals depict war in all its glory, with death and destruction everywhere. The walls are spoiled between the huge scratch marks and the trash everywhere.
This hallway is just as wasted as the one before it. It looks as if it was a place to showcase every implement of war. There are statues of famous war heroes and the murals of epic battles. A full set of field plate armor has been blown into a pile in one corner just before the door to the east. The hallway continues to the west.
This area is obviously the war room for the Treehome. The walls are covered with maps and diagrams, most of which are of Treehome and the surrounding areas. Diagrams of different war machines and tactics are strewn all over a central table. It seems the last time this room was used was to defend Treehome from a dragon....a fire breathing red dragon.
As you step into this room you feel strange. The world begins to spin out of control.
This obviously was a very beautifully decorated sitting room for the offices in this area, but now it is blasted as if by a huge fireball. The charred murals show all aspects of Elven life. There are also the charred remains of divans and cushions that had been thrown about for the comfort of those who wait. Those waiting are another thing!!!! All about the room are spectres and ghosts most of which just moan and leave you alone. There are offices to the north, east and west.
This office is decorated with style and grace. The class of this Director is beyond reproach. The central item in this room is a very nice hardwood desk. The walls contain murals and paintings of great age depicting the establishments of the Tree city flourishing with business.
This is the office of the Treehome's Director of Agriculture. It is decorated in a rather overstated way. It is obvious that the Director was proud of his station in life. There is a very large and gaudily decorated desk in the center of the room. The way out is to the south.
This office is very sparsely furnished. It is filled with filing cabinets and a large desk. The desk is covered with papers and scrolls of all kinds. The walls are covered with pictures of some of the villains of ancient times and there are murals of heroic actions taken by some of the past Directors. There is a sitting room to the east.
As the staircase gains entrance to this landing it seems as if this was another world. This floor of the tremendous Treehome seems to be untouched by the chaos of the floor before it. It almost seems as if this part had a life of its own......as if maybe this was the heart of the great Treehome. Indeed as you listen you even seem to hear a gentle heartbeat. The crystal staircase continues up and down into the tree. To the south, east and west large hallways continue into the tree.
This part of the hallway is the entrance to the high mage's quarters. It is decorated with tapestries of all the great mages. Even the ancient Elminster is on a tapestry depicting his visit to the Treehome and his instruction of Shalthure in the arts. This ornate hallway continues to the north. The way south is shrouded in fog.
This is the sitting room of the great mage. There is a large divan on the east wall, which Salthure probably used for sleeping as well as entertaining visitors. The room is filled with remnants of old scrolls and there is a book shelf filled with books of all kinds. Each about magic in different forms, and the history of magic in the realms. The way to the west is shrouded in fog. The doorway to the hallway is to the north.
This is obviously the work area of the mage Shalthure, high mage to the king himself, it is decorated in early magic. Tables line the walls and are filled with all kinds of components and vials. A statue of a fairy dragon sits in the center of what must be the main work bench. Its eyes seem to follow you around the room. The door to the west leads out onto a balcony. Shalture's sitting room is to the east.
This balcony looks out onto what seems to be all the realm. The dizzying height pushes you unconsciously back from the golden railing. The tree about you teems with life you hear birds and other creatures chittering happily. It is truly breathtaking to be above all things looking down. The balcony continues to the north and the quarters of the King's mage are to the east.
This balcony looks out onto what seems to be all the realm. The dizzying height pushes you unconsciously back from the break in the golden railing. The tree about you teems with life. You hear birds and other creatures chittering happily. It is truly breathtaking to be above all things looking down. The balcony continues to the north and south.
Upon entering this room a soft breeze kisses your cheek. There is a small table and chair set upon a small balcony. From the balcony you can see for miles. The western wall is a huge fireplace. A huge over stuffed couch is placed in front of it. A pot of water hangs from the mantle being warmed by the fire for hot cocoa.
This balcony looks out onto what seems to be all the realm. The dizzying height pushes you unconsciously back from the golden railing. The tree about you teems with life you hear birds and other creatures chittering happily. It is truly breathtaking to be above all things looking down. The balcony continues to the south. To the east is an ornate hallway.
This hallway is decorated with tapestries depicting the king's quest to kill the large red dragon. One depicts the King with a lance piercing the great dragon and killing him. The Crystal staircase is to the east while to the west is a balcony with an incredible view of the realms. The northern doorway leads into a very small sitting room.
This small but luxurious hallway seems to be only an entrance into a much larger hallway to the east. Small decorative columns flank the the entrance to the east and the marble floor of the entryway meets plush carpet there also. The cool marble floor here lends a chill to the air, lending to the strange quietness of this place. The Spiral Staircase is to the west.
This plush hallway leads to sleeping quarters apparently for the visitors to the Treehome. The carpet in the hallway is thick and a deep rich brown color. Multi-colored tapestries line the walls and a crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling. To the north and south are sleeping chambers. The hallway leads to other chambers to the east.
Thick furs cover the walls and floor and blanket a large bed in the corner of the room. A huge stone fireplace fills the north wall. A candelabra with several dozen half-burnt candles stands on a table near the center of the room. The hallway is back to the south.
This lavish bedroom contains an extremely huge bed, covered with a very thick feather filled comforter. An ornate gold encrusted dressing table with a large mirror is against the eastern wall. A tapestry depicting a battle with a group of Black Trolls hangs above the bed. A large intricately carved wardrobe is on the western side of the room.
This hallway is comfortably furnished with quiet luxury. There are two soft chairs placed on each wall beside a small pearl inlaid table. A plush carpet covers the floor and a crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling. An ornate tapestry hangs across the south wall depicting a major victory over a tribe of ice giants. The bards still sing about that battle. There are sleeping chambers to the north and south this hallway continues east and west.
This room is lavishly decorated. Several snow white bearskin rugs are placed about the floor, and a huge feathery soft bed is against the north wall. The covers of the bed are messy, and one of the quilts has been dragged across the floor. A small writing table, a straight backed chair at the table and two low armchairs are the only other items of furniture in the room. The hallway is back to the south.
This opulent bedroom is decorated in the most garish fashion imaginable. Bright red and purple tapestries line the walls and a huge canopied bed fills one end of the room. The hallway is back to the north.
This end of the hallway is splendidly appointed, containing a large mahogany table and two plush armchairs. A silver chandelier casts gentle illumination throughout this area. There are sleeping chambers to the north and south and the hallway continues back to the west.
This room contains a bed, a nightstand and a wooden rocking chair. Along the eastern wall is a large fireplace. As you open the door, a ceramic pitcher flies off the night stand and the rocking chair begins to rock with a creaking eerie sound. Out of the corner of your eye you see a vaguely luminous shape in front of the fireplace. A voice says, "Begone! I shall warn you no more!" it echoes off the walls. The chair ceases moving and the room becomes ominously silent. You can leave the way you entered.
This room is a luxurious bed chamber. Richly outfitted with costly furniture, expensive tapestries, and brightly colored carpets. There is a curtained alcove in the southwestern corner of this room, draped with white velvet. A canopied bed, a blanket chest and three small tables, one holding a basin and pitcher for washing, make up the rich furnishings of the room. The door north leads to the main hallway.
This small area is behind the fireplace of the bedroom. The only thing in this room is the corpse of an elven noble. His clothes are those of a highly placed official and he has obviously been murdered. This mystery is ancient and will probably never be solved. The only exit is back out thru the fireplace.
This small sitting room is cramped and uncomfortable. It almost seems as if it was made that way on purpose. The pillows thrown about the room to sit on are lumpy and hard. Above the northern door which leads to the office area of the Lord High Counselor, there is a sign in ancient elven script. The way south leads out into a much roomier hallway.
This is the office of the High Counselor's personal secretary. Like Margrat, the secretary, the room is very cold and official looking. The room is furnished with a desk, chair and a small divan but little else. The desk is very organized even after many years there is not a paper out of place. The High Counselor's office is to the east and the southern exit takes you out into the sitting room.
This office is opulent in appearance, and the furniture is all very expensive looking. The lone tapestry is a personal painting of the High Counselor and it is centrally placed over the desk so all must look at it. The desk is covered with lots of very important looking papers many of which deal with the money issues of the kingdom. It looks as if the Lord had his hands up to the elbows in the King's money. The only apparent exit is to the west.
There must be a secret treasury hidden here by the Lord High Counselor for his own personal use. There are several chests and boxes just lying around, they are all unlocked, open and empty. Except one which is still closed. The key is nowhere to be found. The secret door is the only exit out of here.
This landing of the great staircase was obviously the most used. None of the elegance is gone but there is a certain well-used-ness to the whole area. The floors look as though the limbs have been made smooth for the population to walk on.. or maybe made smooth by the walk of the population. The hallways and byways follow the course of the limbs of the Great Tree. To the north and south are large doorways out onto rustic looking paths. To the east and west are elegant looking hallways, and the grand Staircase continues both up and down.
There are soft amber spheres floating near the ceiling that provide enough light to see that the hallway is overgrown with vines. They seem to have pushed their way through the door to the east. It will take some pushing and cutting to make it through here. The door stands askew on its hinges. It seems only one person at a time can make it into the next room. The spiral Staircase stands to the west.
This at one time must have been the only winery to serve the people that lived here. Vines have over taken this area, they cover it from floor to ceiling. It seems that the equipment here is still in working condition. It looks as though it was used recently. It appears there is a door hiding in the vines on the north wall. To the west is a hallway.
The grape vines have grown out of control here, as though no one has taken care of them for ages. The mass of roots and vines make walking impossible. Upon closer inspection, it looks as though the vines are empty of grapes. Someone or something must have picked them all.
There are no walls here, only woven rope like railings on both sides of the pathway. The pathway itself is an extremely wide limb of the great Treehome smoothed into a roadway. On both sides it is a long way to the ground. The small branches above have woven themselves into a roof over head. The pathway leads to a large farmland area to the south and it enters the Treehome through a wide doorway to the north.
This area has been divided into several different garden plots. Each contains different kinds of vegetables for the people to buy and trade. The plots though of an ancient time still look as though they were still being tended to...but by who or what remains a mystery. To the east is a building to house the grain and product as it is harvested. To the north is a rustic looking path built right into the tree.
It can be assumed at one time this was a storage area for the food that was grown here. Any food that was left here has long since rotted away or been carried off by scavengers. There are holes in the ceiling that allow bits of light to pass into this dark area.
This path is hollowed out of an immense limb of the tree, open to the elements, with no walls and only the overhanging limbs for a roof. It leads west into a cultivated area planted right into the tree itself, and beyond it, farther out on the great limb, stands a very large barn-like structure. To the south a large doorway opens into the elegant interior of the Treehome.
The profusion of grains and vegetables growing here is nothing short of astounding. It is hard to imagine how so much can grow in such a little area. The farmers who planted this crop must be the best in the Kingdom. To the west is a large building for the storage of this massive crop. To the east the pathway continues back to the Treehome.
This large barn-like structure is divided into several rooms each with a different grain type in it. There are also many rooms for milling and threshing the different grains into a useable resource. It is readily apparent that the Treehome was at the very least self-sufficient. The ancients who lived here were very efficient in the use of grains. Who though is maintaining this area now??? The farming area is back outside.
This elegant hallway once was filled with the bustle of people going about their daily lives. The walls are a shimmering white, dulled in spots. The floor seems to have been sanded down and polished to a high sheen. The hallway follows the direction of the limb. To the east there is a spiral staircase and the hallway continues to the west.
The once beautiful walls of this elegant hallway have been burnt by an incredible wave of fire. Holes are burnt through to the outside in several places and the ceilings are covered with soot. The shop to the west seems to have suffered the greater amount of damage. The door is nearly charred through and the dressed windows have been blown out. The hallway and the damage continues to the south and the east.
As you enter this shop a soft breeze caresses your skin. Mixed with the breeze is the faded fragrance of roses. There are rotting bolts of fabric and half burnt dresses strewn about the room. Some even hang from limbs of the Treehome itself. The north and west walls have been burnt away by what must have been a great ball of flames. The windows into the hallway to the east have been blown out.
This hallway has many huge scuff marks in the floor, as though a very big something had dragged itself down it. The walls are black and dingy grey from the fires that ran out of control here. There are some very interesting Elven designs near the floor and again near the ceiling but most of them have been gouged out. To the north and west the hallway continues.
Scattered about are the remains of what must have been a very large barricade. Broken beams, tables and wickedly sharp splinters of the Treehome are strewn about dangerously. It is apparent that those who built it perished as quickly as the barricade did. To the west is what remains of a supply store. To the south is a bend in the hallway. To the east is more of the hallway.
Upon entering the remains of this small shop your nose is assaulted with the stench of rotting decay. Looking around you notice something hanging high on the north wall. Closer inspection you see what has to be the remains of a corpse which has been mounted here. It can't be the ancient owner of the shop so it has to be more recent. Then you notice that the head has been crushed and the brains are missing. The only exit is to the east.
The hallway turns here, as though following the course of the tree limb it is a part of. The walls here have darkened with the ages of disuse. Amber spheres of light still float and glow near the ceiling. To the west and north the elegant hallway continues.
The faint light from the gaping holes in the walls and ceiling give an eerie look to the hallway. The last futile battle seems to have been here. The charred and melted remains of small barricades and bones are all that is left. There is a small door to the south. To the east and west the hallway continues.
It is obvious that this was once a lavish shoe store. Nothing seems to have been touched here. There is dust piled everywhere. Every shelf is lined with shoes and boots. In the center of the room there is a locked glass display case holding a pair of golden slippers. There is a note placed beside the case.
The walls here are a bright pearly white. There are amber spheres here near the ceiling casting a soft light. The floor is the very limb of the tree and is beautiful in its creation. The hallway does continue to the east into an elegant hallway torn apart by some great battle and to the west the hallway continues.
In its day this shop must have been very breathtaking. There are delicate vases that still rest on the shelves. Some still contain the dried husks of flowers from years past. There are also sculptured urns along the east wall. It looks as if they have been melted by some great fire of sorts. The only exit is to the north.
There is very little light in this part of the hallway. It looks as if there was a small battle fought here. There are stains on the walls and glass shards lying on the floor. The glass is from the flower shop window to the south. To the north and east the hallway continues.
The walls are a soft pearly white that carry the light of the amber spheres that float near the ceiling. It appears that the limb of the tree has been sanded smooth for the people that live here to use for a walkway. To the west lies the foyer of the ballroom. Here the hallway bends to the south.
The walls here are a soft pearly white with royal purple swags draped along the ceiling. The gleaming floor looks as though it is made of glass. There are elegant statues placed by the door to the east leading to the dining hall and the ballroom.
This hall has obviously served many a feast. There are four long tables in the center of the hall. Each can seat at least four hundred guests. A small set of steps leads to the royal table at the south end of the dining hall. Two serving tables are set against the west wall. They are separated by a small door. The soft sound of music and laughter filter in from the ballroom to the north. To the east is the foyer.
This large storage room is filled with racks of dishes, goblets and silverware for at least two thousand royal guests. Even here the walls gleam with the radiance of gold.
The golden walls around the dance area are draped with royal purple swags. Only a small portion of the very large crystal chandelier can be seen from this part of the dance floor. There are several ghostly figures moving about, it can only be assumed that they are dancing. Large double doors lead out onto the terrace to the west. The sound of plates and glasses clinking drifts in from the dining room to the south. The ballroom opens out to the north and east.
Only a small portion of the crystal chandelier can be seen from this corner of the ballroom. On the east wall there is an oak shelf protruding halfway up the wall. The shelf is just wide enough for goblets to be set upon. The golden walls taper to a rounded corner here. To the north and east the ballroom opens up.
There are small sets of tables and chairs arranged around this part of the terrace. Vines have grown rampant here interlacing themselves with the golden railing making it appear as if they were woven into the design. Strange music can be heard coming from somewhere as if the dance floor was still being used. The terrace to the north is a little more private and double doors open into the ballroom dance floor to the east.
The outer walls around the dance area are gold and draped with royal purple swags. Only a small portion of the large crystal chandelier can be seen from this part of the dance floor. There are several ghostly figures moving about, it can only be assumed that they are dancing. A set of golden double doors stand open onto a small terrace to the west. The ballroom opens up to the south and east.
Only a small portion of the crystal chandelier can be seen from this corner of the ballroom. On the east wall there is an oak shelf protruding halfway up the wall. The shelf is just wide enough for goblets to be set upon. There is a large window in the north wall, allowing the moonlight to cast the mood for the dancers. To the west and south is more dance floor.
This small but elegant terrace is a breath of fresh air from the stuffy ballroom. A quaint little table and chairs has been set here for someone to rest and enjoy the sounds of the forest. The filigree railing has been crafted from the finest elven gold. The doors are opened to the east giving a view of the dance floor of the ballroom. The terrace opens up to the south.
The massive staircase comes to an end here. The landing is a glorious piece of craftsmanship. It is literally carved to represent a dragon with wings folded and lying here. The Crystalline Spiral Staircase goes down into the heart of Treehome. The entrance to the Great Throne room of the kings of Salthrist is to the west. There is a mysterious and very dark hallway that goes east.
Your head begins to swim when you enter this room. It seems as if you are being torn limb from limb in all directions.
This opulent room is filled with the mementos of a glorious past. This is the Grand Throne Room of the Great Treehome Salthrist. The central feature is a Golden Throne. Placed around the room are statues of past Kings and Queens. There seems to be a haze about the throne as if someone was sitting in it.
This is obviously the treasury of the Treehome Salthrist. There are many great and wondrous items just lying about, as well as great wealth. The great tree seemed to shudder as you enter... could the rumors be true???...That Salthrist is a living thing.
In some mysterious way each step down this hallway leads into deeper darkness. Back to the west the royal landing is bright, and the dark thickens where the hall turns north, until a faint gleam of silver shows through an open doorway.
The staircase before you stands in brilliant contrast to the darkness to the south. It is made of the purest of silver and is carved and worked with the hands of ancient artisans to the point where it reflects even the tiniest of lights into a beacon of intensity. It reaches up into a place of unimagined radiance, while the way south is dark beyond your imaginings.
This landing is ablaze in the radiance of worked and refined silver. The silver staircase which leads down is incredible in its beauty, but to the west is a staircase of purest gold which outshines even this treasure.
The staircase that leads up into the remaining reaches of the vast Treehome is of purest gold. Each step is made of the finest gold in the realm. The banister is decorated with the finest filigree. To the east can be seen a staircase of silver.
A thirty foot high ceiling arches above the twenty foot wide hall. Mosaic patterns cover the floor. A close look discovers the image of a Moon-elf King taking a huge red dragon captive. A brilliant golden staircase leads down.
This is a vast chamber, at least one hundred feet across. The crystal dome of this room rises to at least forty feet above the tile floor of this area. The translucent dome is broken and cracked and bright light filters through it onto the center of the rotunda. It is obvious now that King Milhahous didn't fulfill his quest to kill Fristmoth.....The great Dragon lives!!!!
This chamber is lit by several glowing orbs mounted upon ornately carved sconces. The walls are covered with a darkly gleaming wood paneling carved with various martial scenes. Upon the floor is an immense polar bear rug complete with head and claws. Against the north wall a sturdy and plain desk and chair covered with all manner of tomes and parchments. Against the eastern wall rests a comfortable looking grey divan which also has several tomes scattered upon it. The southern wall is dominated by a huge stone mantled fireplace which is blazing fiercely. A slightly worn and thickly cushioned chair is placed before the fire.
There are many book shelves on each side of this hallway. Each shelf is packed with books. There are doors at either end and doors in the center. The southern door leads to a small study. The floor here is covered by a thick dark blue carpet. At each end of the hallway a sparkling ball of light floats near the ceiling.
A small set of stairs leads to a large bed. At each corner of the bed there is a gothiclike pillar. Resting at the top of the pillars above the bed is a mirror. The walls are draped in deep navy. A white polarbear skin rug is lying in front of the fireplace. Beside the rug is a bottle of champagne and two fluted glasses.
This room is a small sitting room, a place for the Gentleman Paladin to greet his guests. The walls are covered with his mementos of a time before. On the east wall the mounted head of the awesome Tiamat. On the west wall the armor of the Evil Lord Brandon. The stuffed form of a Giant Alligator lies in a corner. Central to this is a table on which lies his greatest of mementos...A Blood Red Rose. Given to him by his ever adoring Bloodstone.
The main piece of furniture here is an extra large four poster bed with a double large, double deep feather mattress. On the bed is a huge white feather comforter. A fireplace of immense proportions fills the north wall and always has a fire blazing in it. The room is lit by three, eight inch tall, nude female fairies who radiate a soft blue glow and flit about the room constantly meeting the needs of the rooms occupants. A bookshelf covers the east wall filled with books of fantasy.
This room is just used for relaxation and contemplation. There is a warm friendly fire on the south wall. There are chairs placed neatly around a large oak table. A huge bay window looks out upon Elf Shadow. The soft melody of a bird can be heard. This room has the feeling of complete peace and serenity.
This huge room is used for entertaining guests. The walls are a deep red, almost black. There is a lush smoke colored carpet in the center of the white marble floor. The horn of the Unicorn casts an eerie glow upon the room. A deep contented rumbling can be heard from the misty shadows of the room.
This is the central hub for all the commerce of the town of Elf Shadow. The fountain is used by the whole village as a water source, and there are deep grooves in the dirt around it, as if something has been pushed around it. A rumble of assorted noises echoes in from the Guild Masters and their trainees to the east, and the smell of bread and herbs of all kinds wafts in from the west. To the north and south the roads lead away from the center, and a stair climbs to Nimh's inn above the court.
Nimh's Inn has all the comforts of home. A fireplace fills the east wall. On the large mantle of the fireplace there are many small figurines each the resemblance of a God or Goddess of the realm. On the north wall is a tapestry depicting Unicorns playing in a grassy field. To the west is the old mailroom, quiet since nobody sends letters. The soft gurgling of water and the sound of clear elven voices can be heard in the court yard below.
The walls of this small room are lined with empty mail boxes, except the west wall, which is glass from floor to ceiling and looks out into the village. A counter divides the room, and on it a dusty bell sits beside a stack of yellowed forms titled 'Request for Additional Pigeons'. The city bulletin board was taken down long ago. The only exit is out through the Inn to the east.
There are many wonderful smells along this section of the road. To the north a very old, very large oak tree stands, large even among the other giant trees on this street. The smell of fresh-baked bread and a high-pitched voice waft in from the south. To the east is the fountain at the center of this community, and the Merchant's Path continues to the west.
This room has been carved right out of the tree itself. It is very sparsely furnished. The major furnishings in the room are religious icons to the god of the powerful looking woman who lives here. The eastern wall has a mural showing the heroic exploits of the realm's greatest Paladins. In the center of the room is a desk behind which stands the Lady herself. The road is back out to the south.
This shop is filled with the smells of many good things to eat. Along the western wall there are display cases filled with pies and pastries. Upon the eastern wall racks of fresh bread hang. A very annoying voice is coming from the kitchen to the south. The exit from the shop is to the north.
The heat in this room is almost overwhelming. Freshly baked goods line the counters. The only source of fresh air is a small window over the sink. It seems that anything stationary in the room is covered with flour. The woman standing here is covered in flour too. Her voice grates on the nerves.
The Merchant's path continues to the east and west. To the north there is a shop built inside of a huge pine tree. Looking through the window you can see all the basic needs of any adventurer. The sharp clang of a hammer can be heard from the armory to the south.
This shop holds all that anyone would ever need for supplies. On the north there are stuffed animal heads hanging. Upon the eastern wall hang waterskins and small bags. There is a small counter in the center of the shop. Candles and lanterns line the west wall. The only exit is to the south.
This shop has a large assortment of swords, daggers, and other weapons hanging from the west wall. On the east wall there are different types of armor and body protections. To the south the glow and sparks of a forge can be seen. The door to the north leads to the Merchant's Path.
This large area behind the armory is the shop of the local tinkerer. There is a huge forge and pots of molten metal hanging over the fire. Tables line the back wall of the repair shop, and on the tables are all different kinds of weapons and armor. Some look as if they are in great need of repair, while others look as though they were just made. The only exit from here is to the north back through the armory.
There is a small puddle in the middle of the road here, easy enough to avoid but wet if stepped into. There is a fortress like building to the north, it has a likeness of a bank. The different but pleasing aroma of herbs drifts in from the south. To the east and west the Merchant's Path continues.
The hallway exudes a very bright light. The walls are made of burnished pine which also gives off a soft glow. The clink and jingle of money being counted echoes throughout the hallway. Directly to the north, a teller is waiting in what looks like a small cage. The large door to the south leads out onto the Merchant's Path.
This room is darker than the hallway but still well lit. The room is divided by thick iron bars which seem to be embedded in the floor and reach up into the ceiling. The west wall has a huge iron door with a small wheel on it, this must be the vault. On the east wall there are notes to and from the bank employees. The only visible exit is to the south.
SHAME ON YOU!!!! Don't you know that stealing is WRONG!!!! This seems to be a very bare room. The walls are made of wood but there are no seams. It's as if you were inside a tree. The only thing that can be seen is a lit torch on the southern wall. There are no visible exits.
This quaint little shop seems to have many wonderful things to offer. The western wall is lined with many different sized shelves. Upon each shelf there are vials of every color under the sun. Placed in racks on the eastern wall, are numerous parchments and scrolls. The floor is covered with thick dust from powders except one small spot in the corner. The only visible exit is to the north onto the Merchant's Path.
This small alcove doesn't seem to have been used much. It is very dark and quiet in here. There are a few candles placed about the room for light. There are no windows and the air smells stale. The deep shadows prevent seeing what lurks in the corners...if there are corners. The only exit is back the way you came.
The Merchant's Path continues east and west. The edge of town is to the west. There seems to be a flurry of movement here. Swarms of termites gather around a small hill on the northside of the road. The pungent smell of manure wafts in from the south, along with the soft whinnies of ponies.
This is no ordinary stable. The outlining walls are made of shrubs and numerous hay bales have been used to make stalls for the ponies. The cover is provided by the branches of the trees. Songs of many birds can be heard from the branches. The only exit is to the north.
There is a small sign on the south side of this path. The sounds and smells coming from the east suggest a fully functioning community ahead. To the north is the Sheriff's office, to the east the Merchant's Path leads into the community of Elf Shadow, and the road leads away west.
This office is very large. In the corner there is a large desk covered with papers. On the wall behind the desk are posters of the major outlaws of the community, among them the infamous Danilo Thann, a thief of renown. Upon the opposite wall hangs a picture of a great warrior, placed so that the sheriff may look upon it from anywhere in the office. To the north is a small holding cell, and the door to the south leads back out to the edge of town.
This is a very small holding cell. It doesn't look to have been used much. The cot has a thin layer of dust on it. Yet the floor seems to be well traveled. There is a small window with bars above the cot. The only exit is to the south.
The Master's Way is the road to knowledge. This road is beautiful, it is lined with tall oak trees. To the south the soft chant of a Sorcerer memorizing a spell can be heard. While to the north there is a strange tingle of power which hovers in the air about a great oak. To the east the Master's Way continues. To the west is the center of Elf Shadow.
This is the road to knowledge. This part of the Way, is really the loudest. To the south the grunts and bellows of warriors in training can be heard. To the north the soft sound of a healing spell being cast. To the east and west the Masters Way continues.
A large oak tree overshadows this quiet little clearing. A small campfire and leanto provide all that this Master needs in the way of luxuries. Great energies radiate from the Master, he is obviously a man of great mental powers. A small path leads you out of the clearing back onto the Masters Way to the south.
Entering this tree you notice that the room is filled with book shelves. In the center of the room is a large table and a straight-back chair. The room is silent except for the soft chanting of its occupant. On the table are several stacks of manuscript paper held down with paper weights. Ample scribe supplies are neatly stacked on a small stand next to the chair. All the things needed to learn the Art of Sorcery.
This large room is bright and cheerful. There is a warm fire in the small hearth. A couple of roughly hewn tables and chairs are placed by windows. Natural tree trunks help to hold the ceiling in place, they are dark with smoke and age. Shelves holding ointments and potions help make the assumption that this is the place of a great healer. The door to the south is the only way out.
This open courtyard is filled with practice dummies, targets and useful weapons of every kind. There are warriors everywhere practicing the things the great Master has shown them. After a hard day's workout you can stumble thru the gate to the north.
This is the road to knowledge. To the south in the shade of a huge oak tree is a well kept grass and flower covered area. A strange man seems to be talking to a flower. The path to the north leads to a tree house from which a great power is emanating, and the unmistakable sounds of hand to hand combat. The sound of arrows hitting something can be heard from the east. The Masters Way continues west.
The close-packed trees give way to an overgrown clearing that might once have been an orchard. All that remains are a couple of large apple trees and a piece of old lichen-covered wall. A curious hissing sound comes from the branches of the tallest tree. To the east the forest closes in to meet the trail, and the old orchard runs back north.
This area is devoted to the worship of nature. It is always kept neatly pruned and is well tended. A carefully placed line of bluish stones sets off a path leading to a rock cairn where flowers, nuts, berries, and garlands of flowers and leaves have been placed. Another path leads into a room built in the boughs of the central oak tree. You must nod to enter the challenge. The exit is to the north.
The room built into this huge oak tree is empty of all but things natural. It is a place of peace and worship of nature.
Entering this open field you quickly learn that Rafe is all business. There are students studying the art of tracking on the north side. While students practice their archery skills on the south. It becomes evident to all that this is a place to practice the skills of the Ranger with a man who truly is a Master.
This narrow little road is lined with big fir trees. Many colorful birds have made homes in the trees. There is a faint glow from the east, as if a mage was practicing a new spell. To the west there is a small sign reading: "Donations Welcome". Northward the road turns into a forest trail. To the south is the center of the town of Elf Shadow.
Scroll-filled wooden racks line all four walls of this room. A squat box, with two short legs and two short grasping claws sits in to the left of an oak table that is centered in the room. A tray of sand for blotting ink, a selection of writing materials, and a number of open books lie scattered upon the table. To the west lies the main road thru town.
Rows of evenly spaced trees make a courtyard here, closed in on the north, west and south by walls of a shimmering silver substance. Targets and practice dummies line the southern wall, and all sorts of equipment has been left lying around for whoever needs it. To the east lies the small road through town.
This wide roadway runs thru the less majestic part of Elf Shadow. On each side of the path are the beautiful but plain houses of the general population. To the east is an example of the average tree house of the moon elves. A door leads east into a tree house. The pathway goes north to the fountain in the center of town and south to a forested region.
When you enter this room you wonder how such opulent furnishings ended up in such a middle class section of Elf Shadow. There are plush chairs and large divans. Incredible works of art from across the land hang from the walls and there are workings of silver and gold everywhere you look. A spiral staircase leads down.
Shhh... don't let the sheriff know but the great Danilo Thann, the most notorious thief in this region is here. He has taken on the task of teaching the young up and coming his craft. It is obvious that his trade was lucrative because his house is filled with the most luxurious of furnishings. A spiral staircase leads up.
The path widens here into a small clearing in the woods. A soft digging sound comes from under a fallen tree beside the path, and the wind whispers lightly through the trees. To the north is a larger clearing; the path to the south leads back to the village.
The trees seem to thin out here making a circle. The grass in this area is very short. A small sheeplike animal is nibbling at the grass. It seems this is where the villagers bring their animals to graze. To the north is an intersection in the forest. To the south is a widening in the path.
This is a small intersection in the forest. Soft growls and snarls can be heard from the deepening forest. To the north is a very large oak tree. The air in this clearing is moist and smells of the swamp, which is visible to the west and extends to the far horizon. To the east the trail rises out of the swamp. To the south is a small pasture.
It is a relief to be out of the mud and mire. This place is not only drier but much more comfortable. The ground is covered with lush moss and the trees provide cover. It seems a great place to rest and be at peace. The trail to the east rises even further out of the swamp. Birds and other creatures of the woods can be heard chittering happily. To the west is a small clearing and beyond that the ever present swamp.
This part of the trail is much drier, as it moves into a more forest like area. Squirrels can be seen playing tag in the trees, and the foliage is alive with sounds of the wildlife. To the west there is a very serene looking part of the forest. To the east the trail appears less traveled and very gloomy.
This gloomy trail seems to be more man made than the game trails in other parts of the forest. It seems strange in the midst of all this serenity. To the east it gets even more curious as it seems to make a drastic bend. The trail to the west leads into a less gloomy part of the forest.
The trail makes a strange bend at this point obviously not created by animals. The bend leads north to what seems to be an uninhabited hut. Even at this distance the smell of the place is overwhelming. The trail west leads away from the stench.
Unlike the homes of the Elven which are tidy and bright, this mud hut has grimy windows, a trash strewn yard, and reeks of old wine and rotting food. There is a rickety old ladder leading up into the hut. To the south a trail leads into darkness.
The open door is hanging by one hinge. From the smell of this room, it is obvious that much wine has been spilt here. The floor is covered with a dark sticky residue. There are broken casks strewn everywhere. There is hardly any furniture in this room but lots of food rations are set upon the central table. There is a very unstable ladder leading down. To the west muttering from someone talking to themselves can be heard.
Upon entering this room a strong sour smell is very noticeable. The stack of garbage that seems to be a bed is covered with a skin of some foul smelling beast. Jugs of wine and pieces of food are strewn all over the floor. The door to the east leads into another foul smelling room.
This ancient oak tree seems out of place in the swamp. The tree is large and has a presence of timeless age, it has housed many creatures in its branches. The purr of a large catlike animal can be heard from above. The path to the south leads to a small clearing.
The view from up here is glorious. High mountains rise in the north, the shoreline of the sea glitters far in the south, and westward, in the clouds, stands what must be the largest tree in the land. There are deep gouges along the sides of this wide, sturdy branch. The only way down is the way you came.
Upon entering the swamp it seems as if all real light has left. The gloom is overpowering giving the swamp shadows that seem to move in all directions. It is impossible to keep from slipping in this mire. To the west more swamp!!! To the east it seems much brighter.
Moving through this swampy region is very nerve shattering. Mud, muck, moss, and fog add to the swamp an air of weirdness. It seems as if strange figures rise up out of the fog at every turn. To the west a large figure seems to tower over you. To the east more swamp!!
This very large cypress has long strands of flowing moss hanging from it. The cypress almost looks lifelike in the fog. To the north is more swamp!!! At the base of the tree is a large animal hole. To the east the trail seems to lead out of the swamp.
It is very dark down here. The sound of something shuffling in the mud can be heard. It seems to be coming from the shadows. A small amount of light filters in from the hole above. The damp heat is enough to drive normal adventurers away.
It would seem important in a swamp to watch for quicksand, but this swamp has bogs more deadly than any quicksand, filled with mud, sand, tangles of plants and instant death. Mile after mile of stinking bog lies under a mist that clings to the skin and chills the bone. The trail picks its way north into the deeper swamp, and south back to the great cypress.
So this is a swamp? Stinking, death-filled bogs stretch in every direction under a mist that clings to the skin and chills the bone, and who knows what lurks just out of sight. The firmest footing bends away west toward open water; the way south leads back toward the cypress.
So this is a swamp? Mile after mile of stinking death filled bogs overlain by a constant mist that clings to skin and chills the bone. Who knows what lurks just out of sight. YET... to the west the mire gives way to a low, wooded island. The mist is thinner along the ground here but the fog layer above your head is thicker. The sight of dry land lifts your spirits... A little. The way east leads back into the swamp.
Walking up out of the swamp onto this island is glorious. The fog has lifted to just above head high, and you see that the ground is dry. An ancient road leads to the west and amongst moss draped trees you can see ruins of an ancient Elven civilization of some sort. The island seems to be of great size even though most of it can't be seen in the depths of this wooded area.
The road ends at the entrance to a stronghold built into the largest tree you have ever seen. This huge Magnolia tree towers over everything. The massive gates which cover the entrance to it are closed. There is a sign to the left. Above the massive gates you can just make out in antiquated elven script: "SALTHRIST TREEHOME" Which you know to be the ancient Treehome of the Moon elves. The old road leads east.
The farther south you move down this road the thicker the forest gets. There are trees of every description including some that look as if they belong in orchards. The trail to the south leads farther into gloomy darkness. The road north seems to lead in the direction of civilization.
The forest closes in around you as you proceed down this road. Gloom and doom surround you with each step. The woods look the same in each direction and it makes one wonder if you're going the right way. The way to the east leads deeper into more forest. The way west leads into the forest but you notice an apple tree every so often. The road to the north leads into more of the forest.
The feeling of being lost is overwhelming. It seems as if the forest is the same in every direction. The sense of being watched is overwhelming. The brush to the right rustles and moves. The trail continues.
The cultivated orchards are a little more evident here, and the forest is a little more friendly sounding. While you still feel lost the orchards are at least a familiar sight. Birds flit and swoop around you, their play gives you a sense of joy. To the west you can see a very large apple tree. To the east the forest gets a little wilder looking.
An orchard has apparently been left to go wild here. You see apple trees spaced evenly about this clearing, they bear fruit but it is dried up and pithy. You see a large apple tree obviously of great age. Its apples remain sweet and juicy. The apple tree seems to want to say something to you and you hear the wind seem to whisper "beware". The trail to the south leads to other orchard like area.
This serene clearing is devoted to some God or Goddess of the realms. A statue worn away by the weather stands in the middle. The statue has no distinguishing marks other than a small blood red plaque at the base. The surrounding area was at one time an orchard, now it has gone to seed. Ruins of an elder elven race can be seen scattered about. To the north a tall stately apple tree towers over the rest of the forest. To the south a larger orchard can be seen.
This house is sparsely furnished. There is nothing on the walls and only a few pieces of furniture. There is a small table along the wall with two chairs. A rug in front of the fireplace is used for meditation. For those who wish to advance drop everything and nod to your master. The only exit is to the south.
There is absolutely nothing in this room. It is used for training.
High in the branches of this Apple tree you can see forever. To the northeast you see a tree so big it is beyond belief. It climbs up thru the clouds. There are strange noises up in this tree not the least of which is a strange hissing noise that raises the hackles on the back of your neck.
While dark and oppressive this area shows signs of civilization. Here are cultivated trees left to grow wild everywhere. You notice a very large apple tree to the west. There are ruins of some past civilization along the road. The road to the east is much darker and frightening.
The trail here is dark and gloomy. The trees seem to bend in towards the trail and the wind blows thru the trees with a whisper that seems almost human. A large bear sneaks about in the brush, avoiding the trail. The path to the east seems to lead into a more cultivated area. The trail to the west is sinister and oppressive.
The trail narrows, as grey-green, wizened trees close in on either side. It is easy to become disheartened when traveling thru such a deep gloomy forest. You think you hear something only to be faced with dark cold silence. To the west the forest becomes deeper and much darker. To the east it isn't much different.
The trail narrows so that you can barely see it in front of you. The brush is so thick it pulls at your clothing. Growls echo off the large trees so it seems that they come from all directions. Even in brightest day this area would be dark as midnight. One can only pray that they haven't lost their way. The trail to the east is the same as the trail to the west, dark and gloomy.
The trail narrows and the forest closes in until it seems to reach out for you. Strange grunts and growls come from every side. To the right you see a strange sight, a large hairy creature walks just off the trail. It sees you and grins way too human like, then runs into the forest. To the east the trail seems to open up into a clearing. To the west the forest becomes even more dark and mysterious looking.
At the entrance to this chamber there is an ornate hand woven carpet. The room is lit by brilliant incandescent torches held in carved ruby sconces. In the northern corner sits an immense bed, the frame of intricately carved mahogany depicting frolicking cherubs. A glistening white silk canopy floats mysteriously above the bed. On the eastern wall is a large mahogany dressing table surmounted by a huge silver mirror. The aroma of rose petals wafts through the air.
A sound leads you to a small clearing with a beautiful large peach tree in its center. A large black owl, perched in the tree regards you for a moment with large, thoughtful eyes before flying off into the darkness with a final cry that sounds like "beware". At the foot of the tree, a dark opening leads down through a thick mass of briars. A bright trail leads off to the north. A much gloomier trail leads into the forest in the west.
Half way down this briar hole you hear growling. A deep growl issues from the area directly in front of you, but you can't back out. As your eyes adjust you see that this is an animal hole of some sort, and it seems someone is home. The only way out is back the way you came.
A large cloud of beautiful yellow and black Monarch butterflies rise from a Magnolia tree filled with gorgeous flowers. The birds sing and chirp at your approach. A small doe and her fawn stop, examine you and bound into the brush. To the north you can see a waterfall and a pond filled clearing. To the south the trail leads up to the base of a large peach tree.
This small clearing is tucked away into a narrow valley on the edge of a small pond. At the north end of the clearing, a stream falls away in a 30 foot waterfall. Several different varieties of flowers grow in this idyllic spot, and the waters of the pond are clear. The forest continues to the south and west.
The trail seems to open up even more as you approach the clearing to the east. It is brighter here and the birds sing melodiously from every tree. High in the sky a large hawk makes lazy circles. To the west the forest gets just a little more dismal.
The road finally turns into a path and breaks out of the denseness of the forest. The sky can be seen a little through the trees overhead. A fox breaks thru the brush to your right and skulks across the path in front of you. The birds tweet and chitter from the trees. The road west leads deeper into the forest. The path to the east seems much more serene.
The area under the fountain is wet and musty smelling. The darkness seems to take on a life of its own. You hear water running and an eerie scratching sound that is quite unnerving. To the north and south are unmarked doors.....of course you can always leave the way you came.
The large size of this house denies the comfort and hominess inside. A warm fire greets you when you enter this humble abode. Although the home is nicely furnished, it seems a bit plain and austere. There is nothing on the white walls or on the hard wood floors. The few pieces of furniture are comfortable but plain. The only exit is to the east.
There is something about these walls that absorbs all light, so that it is dark even with a torch. The sound of something alive scratching against the walls echoes from every direction. Far to the north a faint light beckons. There is a door to the south.
The tunnel seems to breathe each time you do. It almost seems you can hear a heart beating fast .. but maybe that's yours? The sounds.. like that nerve wracking scratching... seem to come from everywhere at once. The tunnel continues to the west. There is a doorway to the north.
The tunnel seems to breathe each time you do. It almost seems you can hear a heart beating fast... but maybe that's yours? The nerve-wracking scratching seems to come from everywhere at once. The tunnel runs back east, and to the west is a door.
The tunnel continues and looks the same as the tunnel behind you. It makes you wonder if maybe you haven't gotten turned around. There is something alive down here it slithers through the darkness. It always seems to be one step ahead of you but you know it's there. To the east is a door... is it closing behind you? To the west more darkness.
The darkness is omnipresent and you can feel it closing in on you every step of the way. The slithering and scratching sounds seem to be louder but you can't tell because of the echoes and mufflings which are a part of the darkness. The tunnel into darkness and terror continues to the north and east.
The long eerie tunnel seems to end here at a choice between two unmarked doors. Either of which could contain riches or death. The slithering and scratching which has driven you to distraction is more pronounced here but the echoes in the tunnel still don't allow you to determine in which direction the noise comes. Something is moving behind one of the doors...the door to the west or the door to the north.
Oooooops...you made the wrong choice. The nest in this room is that of a very large snake. The Queen Water Moccasin has made her nest here so that her children would not be disturbed by some silly adventurer. The only way out is the way you came.
The scratching of little creatures can be heard all about in this very dark and dank room. You can hear the constant drip of water. This room makes you wonder what could be hidden in the darkened corners. The only way out is the way you came.
The tunnel ends here in a dimly lit area. The scratching and skittering of animals can be heard all around, and the walls seem alive with the moss and slime growing on them. A small torch burns on the east wall. A small door is barely visible to the west, and the tunnel runs back south.
The darkness seems to follow you into this room like a living thing, moving in and around the corners. The same scratching sound echoes off the walls. It makes you wonder if it's in front of you..or behind you. The only exit is the door to the east.
