Under The Well (Peleus)

76 rooms · levels 1–7

Inside the Well

The damp air inside the well has caused giant areas of mold to form on the walls. The stones are very slippery, but jagged enough to hold on to. The rope from the top of the well hangs loosely in the center of the well, looking very old and tattered. It disappears in the darkness below.

Further Down the Well

Very few strands of sunlight penetrate the darkness that is in the well. The dampness in the air has caused a foggy haze in this section of the well, blocking most vision. The sounds of the outside world echo softly through the well, but are few and far between. The jagged stone wall makes it possible to climb both up and down.

Bottom of the Well

The bottom of the well is composed entirely of mud. Giant puddles of very dirty looking water have formed here, and the bucket from the well has settled in one of these puddles. Many tiny footprints are in the mud, leading both to and from a missing section of the well wall to the east.

Small Tunnel

Tiny scratches pervade the silence of this rocky tunnel. The soft ground is very wet and muddy from a small stream of water flowing in from the west. This tunnel looks newly built, due to the pickaxe and other new tools still lying about the tunnel. The tunnel leads both to the west and to the east.

Cavern Tunnel

A small hole in the middle of the tunnel contains many palm branches, old broken wooden boards, and lots of dirt. A horrid stench arises from the hole. The rest of the tunnel has many other small footprints, leading both to the west and to the east.

Opening of a Cavern

In the middle of this cavern is a large hole. It does not appear to have been man-made. A very old and rickety ladder has been left in the hole, barely viewable in the dark. The tunnel leads to the west.

Inside the Tunnel

The ladder on the wall heads straight up and down the tunnel. It is black as night in the tunnel, and it stretches up and down for an unknown length. A small tunnel offshoot to the east is barely visible in the tunnel.

Bottom of the Tunnel

The tunnel contains many skeletons of dead animals and humans, perhaps as a ward of some sort for trespassers. A ladder on the far wall leads upwards into a dark tunnel. Faint noises echo in from the tunnel to the east.

Cavern Tunnel

The tunnel floor is littered with pieces of bone fragments. The tunnel is very dark, and the bone fragments seem to shine in what little light exists. The tunnel is very quiet - nothing seems to stir at all. The tunnel continues to the west and to the east.

Cavern Tunnel

The tunnel floor is very wet from water dripping down from the cavern ceiling. Many small footprint tracks are on the muddy floor. The cavern wall has deep grooves, as if it had claws drug through it. The tunnel leads to the west and to the east.

Cavern Tunnel

Many footprint tracks lead to the east and to the west. The sound of faint voices echo through the tunnel, apparently coming in from the east. Sounds of trickling water echo in from the west. The tunnel leads to the west and to the east.

A Pair of Wooden Gates

The tunnel resolves into a pair of brand new wooden gates, blocking the path through the tunnel. A few chairs have been set up outside the gates, next to a bell that hangs from the tunnel ceiling, perhaps used as an alarm of some sort.

The Cavern Tunnel

This large, rocky, round tunnel appears to be heavily frequented. Cart tracks have dug grooves into the dirt floor of the tunnel, heading towards both the north and the south. A smaller tunnel leads off to the west. A pair of wooden gates block the passage to the north.

Cavern Tunnel

This large tunnel is lined with old wooden beams, keeping the rocks above in place. A few bats flitter here and there, to the many noises that echo in the tunnel from the south. The tunnel leads to the north and to the south.

Cavern Tunnel

Voices and other sounds echo from a tunnel to the east. Large boulders block off a side passage, apparently there because of a faulty wooden beam collapse. The tunnel heads to the north and to the south.

Cavern Tunnel

A small wooden shack is located off to the west in this large tunnel. It looks to be of some importance, as there are many fine gifts adorning the location. The large tunnel leads to the north and to the south.

Cavern Tunnel

Off to the east, a large building can be seen in the far corner of the cavern. Voices echo in from the tunnels to the west and to the east. A large tunnel heads off to the north, looking ominously darker than the tunnels to the west and east.

A Small Tunnel

Small torches have been placed on the tunnel walls to light up this particular section of the tunnel. A large pile of black stone blocks off a side passage. A set of cart tracks, dug into the tunnel floor through repetition, lead in from the east and end right at the pile of black stone.

A Small Tunnel

Cart tracks line the floor of the tunnel, heading both to the east and to the west. The smell of sweat lingers in the air, and off in the distance people's voices can be heard. Flickering lights can be seen to the west and to the east.

The Crossroads

Four tunnels all appear to converge at this one spot. To the south is complete darkness, yet a pair of cart tracks can be seen on the ground leading to the south. Flickering lights can be seen in the distance to the west and to the north, while sounds of civilization echo through the tunnel, apparently coming from the east.

Wooden Shack

This shack apparently houses the town's water supply. It was built around the well to protect things from getting into the water supply - or out. Many fine carvings and reliefs have been cut into the stone well in the shack. The tunnel leads to the east.

Cavern Tunnel

Drops of blood line the floor of this tunnel, apparently heading towards the east. Many footprints on the dirt floor lead to both the west and to the east. Drawings on the wall, very noticeable, depict someone hunting an animal.

Small Tunnel

The giant stench of rotting flesh drifts in from a tunnel opening to the north. Many footprints, both animal and human in nature, head off into tunnels towards both the north and the west. A cave-in, recent from the sign of slightly decaying crushed animal corpses, blocks off the other ways.

The Meat Shack

Dead animals and large slabs of meat have been stored in this old wooden shack in the corner of the tunnel. Most of the meat is rotten and worm-ridden, and smells much worse than it looks. Footprints lead out of the shack to the south.

Entrance to the Inn

Sectioned off in a part of the large cavern is a small inn. Dirty broken windows, old rotten wood, and trash make up this little inn, but apparently it does not detract from business. There is much activity going on inside the inn, from the movement inside the windows and the loud rambunctious singing coming from within. A pair of swinging wooden doors marks the entrance to the inn.

The White Lion Inn

A long row of pickaxes hang right next to the swinging doors of the inn. Miners caps and jackets hang on pegs next to the row of tools. Around the large common room of the inn are many tables full of people playing cards or rolling dice. A large fire roars in the fireplace. The bar can be seen to the west.

The White Lion Inn

Unlike the rest of the common room, the bar is relatively clean. A large selection of ale has been placed behind the bar. Above the bar is a large pickaxe with a gold inscription on the handle. A pair of stairs can be seen to the south.

The White Lion Inn

A pair of stairs leads up to the second floor of the inn. A sign hanging from one of the rails of the staircase reads: 'Rooms for Rent'. A few drunk patrons of the bar stumble up and down the stairs, singing loudly and slinging ale out of their mugs as they walk.

Cavern Tunnel

Large painted arrows on the wall point to the south, with the initials 'M.S' next to each of the arrows. Deep grooves in the middle of the tunnel run north and south, apparently made by something heavy being repeatedly rolled through the tunnel.

Cavern Tunnel

The tunnel is very dark, and faint noises and shouts echo in from the south. Small rocks and debris have been pushed off to the side of the tunnel. Deep grooves in the middle of this tunnel point to heavy carts being wheeled through. The tunnel leads to the north and to the south.

Entrance to the Mining Shaft

A huge hole in the center of this cavern dominates the room. Many ropes and ladders lead into the hole, and mining equipment can be seen in piles around the hole. Voices echo from down below, as well as in a tunnel to the east and to the north.

In the Mining Shaft

The mining shaft is filled with dusty air, hindering vision in the tunnel. Tiny rocks slide down the shaft, yet there is no echo from below. Voices and other sounds of digging do echo through the tunnel though from somewhere down below. The ladder on the wall leads up and down.

In the Mining Shaft

The ladder on the wall leads up and down this mining shaft. Many digging marks scar the rocky walls, and a huge chunk of rock appears to be missing from the west, forming yet another tunnel. The sounds of drunken singing echo through from the west, while more digging sounds echo from down below.

Bottom of the Mining Shaft

The bottom of the mining shaft contains many digging tools, lying all about the tunnel. A wooden ladder is set up against one of the walls, leading up the shaft. A 'clanging' sound, that of metal against rock, echoes in from the tunnel to the east.

Mining Tunnel

Fresh dirt and rocks litter this newly dug tunnel floor. Small bugs crawl amongst the freshly dug dirt. The air in the tunnel is filled with dust, hampering both breathing and vision. The tunnel widens out to the west, and narrows to the east.

The End of the Tunnel

This section of the tunnel appears to be the place of the busiest digging. Many pickaxes and shovels line the tunnel walls, and many footprints appear in the dirt here. A few pickaxes are still stuck in the wall, and the smell of sweat runs rampant in the air.

Cavern Tunnel

This small tunnel contains many dusty footprints on the floor. The footprints head to the west and to the east. Off in the distance to the east, a large building can be seen. The tunnel leads to the west and to the east.

Outside the Warehouse

To the north looms a large building, a warehouse of some sort. It is nestled in the corner of a large cavern located at the end of this tunnel. Occasional lights flicker inside the cracked windows of the old warehouse. A small door is located in the front of the warehouse, while the tunnel leads back to the west.

Inside the Warehouse

A small desk has been set up inside the door of the warehouse. On the desk are the usual desk-type items: a few pieces of paper, a journal, a quill pen and ink. There is a hallway to the north, to the west, and to the east. The door to the outside is directly to the south.

Inside the Warehouse

This section of the hallway appears to be a temporary storage area. Small boxes have been stacked upon each other, and hold various items. Most of the boxes hold a set of raggedy clothes, and the rest hold pairs of old, worn, leather sandals. All of the clothes and sandals appear to be a very small size.

Inside the Warehouse

The end of the hallway holds garbage, and tons of it. Rats, cockroaches, flies - all sorts of animals lurk about in the large piles of garbage. To the west appears to be a bathing area of some sort, while to the east is another hallway.

Inside the Warehouse

Small cots and beds have been set up in this section of the warehouse. Tiny card tables have been set up around the room, and a few sets of dice have been left on a couple of the tables. The aroma of sweat and dirt comes from each of the beds and cots, and tiny bugs can be seen crawling around in the cots. More beds can be seen to the north, while the entrance to the warehouse can be seen to the east.

Inside the Warehouse

Piles and piles of boxes litter the warehouse floor in the northeast section of the building. All of the boxes are labeled with the initials 'W.M', but there is nothing actually in any of the boxes. A large pile of garbage is to the west, while racks of mining equipment can be seen to the south.

Inside the Warehouse

Small cots and beds fill up this section of the warehouse. The cots are very filthy, and the beds appear to be made of hay. More beds can be seen to the south, while a bathing area is located to the north.

Inside the Warehouse

This section of the warehouse appears to be the bathing area. There are two large tubs filled with icy cold water in the middle of the room. The water is very dirty and filthy. A thin layer of dirt has formed on the top of the water. Flies fly about a few rags used to dry off in the corner of the room. To the east appears to be a large pile of garbage, while beds can be seen to the south.

Inside the Warehouse

A single rack of mining equipment is in this room. However, the rack is empty. More interesting are the portraits on the wall. Two portraits, of two different lone robed figures are on the wall. A small plaque is placed underneath each portrait. More mining equipment is visible to the south, while lots of boxes appear to be stored to the north.

Inside the Warehouse

On the wall of the warehouse is a line of tools. Racks and racks of shovels, pickaxes, and torches are lined up in the room. The equipment looks well used, and about half of the racks are empty. The entrance of the warehouse is to the west, while to the north appears to contain more storage equipment.

A Small Entrance

Just outside of the mining shaft, this small tunnel appears to be an entrance to a room to the west. A small wooden frame serving as a door marks the entrance and the exit. A large pile of mining equipment has been left here in the doorway.

A Break Room

Many shovels and pickaxes lie in a heap in the corner of this room, as it appears to be a makeshift break room. A giant table lies in the middle of the room, surrounded by tiny stools and chairs that are knocked over. A rotting carcass or three sits on a few plates still on the table, and many mugs have been strewn about the room. A few empty barrels of mead lie in the corner of the room.

Cavern Tunnel

To the east is a large gated house, located inside a large cavern. It looks very expensive, and well-taken care of. The tunnel leading to the east looks well taken care of, while the tunnel to the west looks normal.

Entrance to the Temple

Large marble pillars stretch to the roof of the cavern inside the archway of the building. Large flaming torches light up the archway of the building. A large pedestal sits at the entranceway to the building - a book sits upon it. A large cracked stone wall marks the passageway to the north and to the east. The tunnel leads to the west.

In the Temple

This small passageway is filled with dirt and many tiny pebbles. The walls of the passageway have been scorched by fire. Small torches placed along the walls of the passage barely provide enough light to see. The passage leads to the west and to the south.

In the Temple

Large fiery torches light up the dark walls of the temple. The inside of the temple is scorched, and parts of the wall have caved in, blocking other paths. The inside of the temple is clean though - someone has taken great care of it. The passageway leads to the east and to the south.

In the Temple

The stone floor of the temple is soon replaced by a nicely cut marble floor. The walls of the temple appear to be under restoration as well. Small torches light up this hallway, as a great light from the east lights up most of the passage. The passage leads to the east and to the west.

The Temple Bath

A large bath is in the middle of the room. It is filled with crystal clear water, and warm to the touch. Tiny bubbles float to the top of the surface in the corners of the bath. This room is extremely well lit up by blazing torches in the four corners of the room.

In the Temple

The back of a few pews can be seen to the east from this passageway. The walls have all but crumbled to dust, as the cavern walls now serve as the walls to the temple. Small flickering lights can be seen off into the distance to the east. The passage leads to the north.

In the Temple

The remaining pieces of a temple now reside here. A few pews still exist in this room, but most are missing or have been charred to a crisp. Small flickering lights can be seen on the altar to the north.

A Small Tunnel

A pale green light radiates from the walls of the tunnel. Even stranger is that the walls of the tunnel seem to move. Closer inspection reveals the culprit of the movement and the light to be a strange green moss that grows out of the walls, writhing about in every direction. The tunnel leads to the north and to the south.

A Small Tunnel

A strange green moss growing on the walls of the tunnel fills the tunnel with a pale green light. The moss moves along the cavern walls, moving into and out of the wall itself. Normal flickering fires can be seen off into the distance to the west. The tunnel leads to the west and to the south.

Cavern Opening

A large cavern opens up to the west of this spot. Small houses and wooden shacks can be seen lining the exterior of the cavern. The walls are dimly lit from torches that rest on the cavern walls. A small house is situated directly to the north. A tunnel leads to the east.

In a Large Cavern

This large cavern contains many houses and small huts for the village. The houses are very small, perhaps built for a person of four-five feet tall at the most. Houses can be seen in all directions. A pile of fallen rocks prevents passage further on.

Large Cavern

In the middle of the large cavern is a giant ash heap, apparently from a nightly bonfire, judging from the blackness of the cavern roof. Large pieces of wood and debris lie around the giant mound of white ash. A small house is directly to the east, while other houses can be seen in the distance to the north and to the south.

Large Cavern

This part of the large cavern appears to be sorely in need of repair. Fallen rocks from the cavern walls have crushed many houses in this part of the cavern, and trash and debris lie in giant piles. The remains of a small house can be seen to the south. To the east is darkness, while to the north more houses can be seen.

A Small Tunnel

Small flickering lights can be seen off in the distance to the west. The smell of fresh meat wafts in from the west. To the east there is nothing but darkness. A cry of pain or moan often echoes through the tunnel from the east.

The White Lion Inn

A small desk rests at the top of the stairs. A small journal rests on top of the desk, lying face open and filled with names. The title of the journal reveals it to be a sign-in sheet. A few of the bar patrons from downstairs head down the hall, keys in hand, for a peaceful slumber.

A Small House

The inside of the house is very poorly furnished. A small wooden table sits in the middle of the room, with a small stool resting next to it. The windows are covered in filth and grime, making them impossible to see out of. The dirt floor of the cavern serves as the floor to the house. A door leading out of the house is to the south.

Large Cavern

This end of the cavern is quite desolate. A small trickle of water drips down from the ceiling, into a small pool of dirty water in the corner of the cavern. A rusty metal bucket lies in the water. A small house is in the cavern to the west.

A Small House

The remains of a house lie in pieces in this area. The wood of the house looks to be badly burned and rotted. A few pieces of furniture sit in a pile in the corner of the cavern: a dresser, a chair or three, and a small couch.

A Small Shack

This small wooden shack rests in the corner of the large cavern. Most of the windows on the shack are broken, and parts of the house are missing. A small couch, ripped apart and stained, rests in the middle of the room. A dresser in the corner of the room contains a few dirty pairs of workmen's clothes. A door to the west leads to the cavern.

At the Altar

The altar has been kept in a near perfect condition. Everything has been kept shiny and clean. Small flickering torches stand at the four corners of a very exquisite altar. Many pictures, carvings, and reliefs make up the coffin, which appears to be made of solid stone. Rows and rows of flowers have been placed on and around the coffin. The coffin looks very old but the flowers look very new...

A Small House

This wooden shack apparently houses a large family. A large wooden table is towards the back of the house. Many small chairs sit around the table, and a few half-eaten meals, surrounded by flies, still sit on the table. A door to the east leads to the cavern.

Small Tunnel

A strange glowing moss lines the cavern walls. The moss radiates a green light, casting an eerie glow about the tunnel. Small cobwebs line the tunnel, reflecting dimly in the light. The tunnel leads to the west and to the east.

Small Tunnel

A thick green moss covers the tunnel walls. It moves and twitches every now and then, as if it were alive. It radiates a greenish light that is cast about the entire tunnel. The tunnel leads to the north and to the west.

Small Tunnel

The cavern walls are completely covered by a thick green moss. Large cobwebs have been woven about the tunnel, which glow in the green light that is radiated by the moss. A tiny chirping sound echoes through the tunnel. The moss blocks off the path to all directions, except to the south.

A Small Pit

This small pit appears to be a trap for wandering visitors or animals in the tunnel. A recent kill appears to have torn down the covering to the pit, as a few animal carcasses lie on pairs of spikes in the middle of the pit. A few scuff marks, from obvious digging, mark the pit edges. A group of rocks from the digging make it possible to climb out of the pit with ease.

Living In Oblivion

This room is dedicated to the writer's (zoner's) block that I've had for the last jagazillion years. I've had a lot to say, I've had a lot of nothing to say. Ever so slowly, this zone will hopefully get done. *Shrug*
