This room consists of a silver nimbus of light. It doesn't look like a workshop, but then Jacinth already has a real workshop.
A small path winds its way through the thick woods here. To the west can be seen a wider trail off in the distance. To the east, the trail wanders deeper into the forest and loses itself among the undergrowth.
A tiny trail struggles to survive amongst the many bushes and saplings that are trying to grow here. It looks like the trail leads both east and west, but it is hard to be sure.
The small path splits here, in the middle of the light woods. There is too much undergrowth to be sure, but it looks like the path might lead west. To the east, past an overhanging blackberry vine, is an earthen cliff. It might be possible to make your way south, too.
Young maple and birch saplings have grown up here where a path used to be. Fortunately, they are not so thick that passage is impossible. It looks more open to the south than to the north.
If you were a unicorn, this would be the perfect place for you. The grass is tall, lush, and green, and a tiny creek meanders across the western side of the clearing. To the east, there is a narrow path into a dense stand of bushes. A path leads south.
An old hermit makes his home here by the side of a tiny creek. His view looks out over a wonderful grassy glade to the east. His only possessions seem to be his sleeping mattress made of hay, a tin fork, and a small hatchet.
The trees and bushes are really, really thick here. If you were, say, 6 inches tall, this would be a good place to hide. There is more room to the west.
The path bends here, not because it is supposed to, but because the vegetation to the south is too dense to cut a trail to. It doesn't look any better to the east, but that's the way the path goes. There is more room to the north.
Young maple and birch saplings have grown up here where a path used to be. Fortunately, they are not so thick that passage is impossible. It looks more open to the east than to the west.
A bare patch of ground stretches perhaps twenty feet in the middle of these woods. Tiny footprints litter the bare earth and a strange smell wafts up from a hole in the ground. There seem to be quite a few large insects flying through the trees at the edge of the clearing.
To the east, the ground rises suddenly to a plateau twenty feet high. The bank is so steep that only a few vines can grow there, but it looks like it is possible to climb up. The cliff face continues to the north, but to the south it is covered in blackberries.
To the east, the ground rises suddenly to a plateau twenty feet high. In the middle of the cliff there is a small passageway blocked by a large stone. You might be able to push the stone aside.
To the east, the ground rises suddenly to a plateau twenty feet high. The plateau above is covered in brambles, and to the north the brambles spill down over the cliff, so it would not be wise to go that way.
A large chamber has been carved in the ground here. Globs of mud adorn the walls. Some of the globs have small bones sticking out of them. There's a stone to the west which might not be too heavy to pull around.
This room is here so that the guards can rush out into the entrance chamber whenever there is trouble. That is, if the guards are awake.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Well, except for the large, noisy chamber to the west.
It looks like a battle took place here not long ago. The corpses of a male warrior and a female cleric lie in pieces on the ground. Upon closer inspection, you see that they have an awful lot of stab wounds. Judging from the amount of blood on the floor, they must have killed a large number of their foes, but those bodies have been carried away.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Unless you count the cave-mouth to the west.
Stalagmites and stalactites fill this cave. Minerals have washed down along with the limestone and have colored the stalagmites various shades of yellow, orange, and blue. Water falls into small, crystal clear pools with an eerie plinking sound.
The lumpy twisting tunnel ends here at a hole in the ground. Many small handholds have been carved into the sides of the hole. It looks like someone tried to dig a tunnel to the north, also.
Someone wanted to dig a tunnel here, but they ran into a massive taproot and had to stop. Small secondary roots hang down from the ceiling at head height.
A wide hole in the ceiling allows access to the outdoors above. Every once in a while, a large insect flies over the mouth of the hole. Tunnels lead north and south. The southern tunnel is decorated with a trail of blood.
A great battle took place here not long ago. A torn and slashed wizard's hat lies next to a butchered human corpse. There are tiny bloody footprints all over the floor, and a trail of blood leads east.
A thief tried to escape from his attackers and fled here. While he made it farther than his wizardly companion, he met his end here. His body lies lifeless in a pool of blood with five large needles protruding from his back.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Wait, was that a faint wail from the west? It looks kind of spooky over there.
The walls of this tunnel glow with a faint light. At first you think it might be magic, but you soon realize that the light comes from bioluminescent slime-molds which grow on the ceiling. A ghostly shape drifts by to the north--or are your eyes playing tricks on you?
The walls of this tunnel are lit by faint light coming from bioluminescent slime-mold growing on the ceiling. A faint scent of death pervades the air.
A small chamber has been carved out of rock here. An inscription on the east wall reads, "I was the most best of all chiefs ever! Boy did I stab a lot of guys! Yes, I stabbed 'em! Now I'm dead, I guess, but I'll stab you anyway if I don't like you!" A small stone tomb rests against the north wall.
A small chamber has been carved out of rock here. An inscription on the north wall reads, "I was the very bestest chief of all! That other guy is a way big liar, I bet he only stabbed a sleeping rat in his whole entire life. Not like me, I went and killed a great big dwarf all on my own! So there!" A small stone tomb rests against the east wall.
The walls of this tunnel are lit by faint light coming from bioluminescent slime-mold growing on the ceiling. A chill light shines in from the north, and a quiet wail echoes down the passage from time to time.
Crystals adorn the walls of this cave, giving it an unearthly beauty. Water drips from the ceiling, tinkling when it splashes off a crystal. A cold, chill light fills the room.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Really! None at all.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Except for a large bump on the wall which might look like a horse's head if you stood on the ceiling.
A narrow crack splits the floor of this room and provides access to further underground. Numerous tiny handholds have been carved into the walls of the crevice.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. No, wait...that's odd. To the south, the cave walls are limestone, but to the north, the cave walls are dark granite. Right here, the two types of wall meet.
A narrow tunnel passes through the dark granite here. The tunnel leads north and south with a branch to the east. You can hear a jumble of echoes to the north, but it is impossible to tell what the noise is.
A narrow tunnel leads north and south through dark granite. To the west, a heavy oak door is set into the wall of the tunnel. A massive iron lock is attached to the door.
A large rectangular walk-in closet has been carved out of the stone here. A massive oaken door is the only way out.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. There are sticks and needles all over the floor, as well as a few straw-filled punching bags. A human-sized corpse also hangs from the dark granite wall. Of course, the jermlaine never use any of that stuff. They just come in here and hit each other.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. The dark granite walls are covered with straw mattresses to kick. But the jermlaine don't bother with those, they just kick each other.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. Here's how they use the room: two or more jermlaine come into this room together and then they try to grab and bite each other. It is good to stop before your opponent dies.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. The floor is covered with posts and planks of wood. Jermlaine use their needles to stab the planks of wood. Several needles are stuck deep in the wood--it is considered a great achievement to stab in your needle so deep that it can't be pulled out.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. The basic idea is to come in here with a bunch of other jermlaine and to pinch them as much as you can without getting pinched too much yourself.
The jermlaine use this room to train for combat. Actually, they don't. No-one wants to get poked in the eye.
The jermlaine's trainer lives in this room. He's the trainer because he's the best at hitting, kicking, biting, pinching, stabbing, AND poking people in the eye!
There is a hole in the ceiling of this lumpy, twisting tunnel. Many small handholds have been carved into the sides of the hole. The tunnel itself leads west into granite and east into limestone. Someone tried to dig a tunnel to the north, also.
Someone wanted to dig a tunnel here, but they ran into a massive taproot and had to stop. Something has gnawed into the root a little, but it still blocks the way.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. Well, it wouldn't have any interesting features if you couldn't see the hole in the ceiling to the west.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. No really, I bet you could spend five minutes in this tunnel and not come up with a single interesting thing about it.
This tunnel would be featureless if it weren't a little warmer than normal. The source of the heat seems to be to the east. It looks really boring to the west.
It is definitely warmer here than in most of the other tunnels. It's also a little bit humid. The tunnel twists downwards here, and the warmth and humidity seem to be coming from that direction.
Whew, it's as warm as a sweltering jungle! And as humid, too! A forest of tiny gray mushrooms grows on the walls. The source of the heat and moisture appears to be to the north.
It is uncomfortably warm in this tunnel. Molds and mushrooms of all types grow here, basking in the steam which wafts in from the east. The floor is damp, and the mushrooms on the ceiling drip water now and then.
A vent of steam surges out from a crack in the floor and fills the room with scalding vapor. Near-boiling water collects in pools on the floor. It is too hot for any fungi to grow here. In fact, it feels too hot for anything to grow here. But is it?
A narrow crack splits the ceiling of this room and provides access to tunnels which aren't quite so far underground. Numerous tiny handholds have been carved into the walls of the crevice. An odd smell, kind of like bones boiled in mustard, wafts in from the east.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have ANY interesting features. There is a dark splotch on the wall which looks like a map of England. Someone has written, "Me is the best!" on one wall, and below it is written, "Me is bester!", "Me is bestest!" and "Me is bestester!!" A fringe of small roots adorns the passage to the north, and to the south a crevice leads up through the ceiling. Okay, so I lied. The tunnel does have some interesting features.
Someone tried to dig a tunnel here, but they ran into a taproot which blocked their progress. There are so many tiny little feeder roots here that it looks almost like the ceiling is covered in brown grass. The most boring tunnel in the world is to the south.
A small fire, built with sticks and dung, has been set up here under a natural chimney that leads to the surface. A huge cauldron sits on the fire where it burbles from time to time. The soup of the day is mustard-boiled bones. A salty smell comes from the north.
You know that this is the betterest kitchen because that is what it says on the wall. A small fire has been built in the center of the room but it isn't burning at the moment. There is a low table covered with scraps, bones, parts of cooked and raw livers, and sandwiches made from ham, pickles, peanut butter, and soy sauce. Under the table is a box labeled, "Weird food from giants."
This room is the third kitchen in the jermlaine tunnels. This kitchen contains a small pile of wood ready to be lit, a counter, a knife rack, and a food-storage box. If it were used, this would surely be a good kitchen. And whoever wrote on the wall must think it is pretty good, too.
This room might be a larder. If it only contained the salted pig, the mashed centipedes, the pile of fresh bones, and the row of mushrooms, you would be sure. But it also contains several goat hoofs, a huge pile of purple pebbles, six broken human-sized chairs, and a pile of broken glass. Still, it might be a larder. Maybe.
This tunnel is lumpy and twists a lot, but it doesn't have any interesting features. However, to the north there is a narrow crevice in the ceiling and to the east the tunnel seems to get much smoother and straighter.
A smooth passage has been bored through the rock here, leading south. Other than the stains on the floor, the passage looks flawless. Poorer quality tunnels lead west and east, but the eastern tunnel is too narrow for even a halfling to fit down.
A smooth passage has been bored through the rock here, leading north and south. Other than the stains on the floor, the passage looks flawless. There are rooms to the east and west. Neither of the rooms smell very good, but the western one smells worse.
This room holds half a dozen mattresses made of thick cloth and stuffed with straw. The mattresses are only a foot and a half long, but other than that they look quite comfortable.
This room holds a dozen mattresses made of thick cloth and stuffed with straw. The mattresses are starting to wear out; the fabric is ripping in places and the straw is starting to poke through. Still, they would have been comfortable once. Too bad they're only eighteen inches long.
A smooth passage has been bored through the rock here, leading north and south. Other than the stains on the floor, the passage looks flawless. There are rooms to the east, west, and south. Straw is threatening to spill out of the southern room and into the passageway, but it hasn't yet.
This room holds two dozen mattresses made of tattered cloth and straw. The straw used to be stuffed inside of the cloth, but now it sticks out all over and has to be held in place with cords. Fortunately, you won't have to use one for a bed because they are only as large as a pillow.
This room holds about a dozen piles of straw mixed in with tattered cloth and bits of rope. Surprisingly, the piles aren't spread out too much, and if you were only a foot tall, you might be able to sleep on one.
The floor of this room is covered with straw, scraps of cloth, and short lengths of cord. In certain areas of the floor, the covering is a little thicker than in others.
The walls of this tunnel are crudely carved with a scene showing a dozen or so tiny figures pulling down a human and stabbing him with needles. The hero of the scene seems to be a tiny figure standing atop the human's chest and wielding a tiny spear instead of a needle.
The walls of this tunnel are crudely carved with a scene showing a band of tiny figures invading a series of caves occupied by giants. Actually, the giants are probably just goblins. Anyway, the murals seem to show that the tiny figures killed all the goblins and ate some of them.
There is a wooden frame about the size of a man on the floor here. There are also a number of long, tough cords, and a wide array of needles. The floor is stained with little blotches of blood and written in blood on one wall are the words, "Fun room."
The walls of this tunnel have been carved twice. The newer carvings depict a human knight entering the tunnels of the tiny figures and brutally slaying many of them. But he had a weakness--there was no-one to watch his back. The tiny figures came up behind him and stabbed him in the back over and over and over, and then when he fell down, they poked him in the eye. Pretty soon he was dead and there was a great celebration. An arrow on the floor points north.
The bones of a human knight lie here. Many of them are fractured or have small holes pierced in them. The bones are stained with dried gray slime. Above the skeleton's head is a sign which reads, "This was the very most worstestest guy! If you is real real real brave, you can throw a worm at him!"
The walls here have been crudely carved. Apparently, the artist or his successor didn't like what was pictured here and smashed all the murals with a hammer. The only things which remain visible are about three thousand tiny feet. There is a small cave to the west and above the entrance to it is the word, "Superduperwowwowguy."
This small cave has a throne carved out of a stalagmite in the center of it. The other stalactites and stalagmites in the room have been broken off and chipped in a haphazard way. Otherwise the room looks pretty plain. But a sign says that this is the best throne room anywhere, and you might not want to argue about that, since the sign is made out of bones.
The ground drops suddenly to the west, giving you a spectacular view over a wooded region and, farther away, a mid-sized town where a lot of activity seems to be taking place. The cliff is steep, but it should be passable thanks to the vines. There are brambles to the north and blackberries to the south, but there is room to walk east between the trees. Farther to the east, a great tree towers over you.
This is the center of a small plateau, but one might not know it from standing here since the vegetation is so thick in all directions. There are at least three distinct kinds of trees growing here, birch, maple, and redwood. To the east, a huge redwood towers above all others.
A dense stand of birches is centered around this point. The wind rustles their leaves and a refreshing breeze filters down, along with a few leaves and a spider or two.
A stand of majestic maples grows here. The broad leaves shift pleasantly in the wind, and crunch happily when they are stepped upon. Unfortunately, no-one has left any syrup nearby.
The trunks of redwoods surround this place. There is room to slip west between the trunks. There is one massive trunk which must be ten or fifteen feet across. The branches are pretty thick, but someone might be able to climb through the foliage if they knew enough about trees. Still, with the pleasant aroma of redwood needles and the majestic trunks reaching skyward, why would anyone want to move?
What a view! From here you can look down over the trees on a small plateau, across the surrounding woodlands, and beyond to a busy town. In the distance to the north you can see mountains, while to the west lies a great forest. There might just be a desert very far to the east, but it is hard to tell.
