The Hearthstead is a district of houses, reached by the shimmering portal on Daleville's North Ride, just south of the Common ("enter portal"). Its streets run round Fountain Square, where the portal arrives and where Hollis Penhallow, the estate agent, sells the plots.

At the agent, "list" opens a map of the plots ("house plots" opens it anywhere): pick a plot to see whose it is, and anywhere in the Hearthstead buy a free one with the map's button. "buy" with a plot's number, at the agent, buys it too. The first plot sold costs 5,000 gold, and each house built makes the next plot 2% dearer, up to 100,000 (the map shows today's price). A house sold back no longer counts, so the price falls again. Gold in your account's bank counts (the bank all your characters share). Each character may own one house.

A house starts as one bare room, its door opening onto the street in front of the plot. "house build" adds a floor above and "house dig" a cellar below, joined by stairs: up to 5 of each. In the house editor the floors stand as a tower: pick one to decorate, or a dashed one to build it. Each one costs 1,000 gold.

Every house is open: anyone may walk in and look round. Its chest is yours alone: put things in it and take them out like any container ("put sword chest", "get all chest"). It holds 50 things, and rare things will not stay in it.

In a room of your house, "house decorate" (or the Decorate button on the room's picture) opens the room to arrange: choose its setting, light and air, drag things in from the list and move them about, make them larger or smaller, flip them, hang them on the wall, or start from a ready layout. A room holds 40 things. Save, and everyone in the room sees it change.

The editor also builds the front of your house, as the street sees it: a cottage, townhouse, manor, tower, keep or cabin, with a front garden (fences, a flower bed, a hedge, a lamp post and more). Passers-by see it in the street's picture.

"house name" puts a name on the plaque by your door. Standing in a room of your house, "house title" and "house describe" change what visitors see there.

"house sell" tells you what the agent pays for your house back, everything you paid for it and its floors, and "house sell confirm" sells it. Empty the chest first.

Your house can be your home: stand in it and type SETHOME.

Rest at home: log out in a room of your house and the time you are away banks rested experience, a quarter of a level for every 8 hours, up to a level and a half. While you have some, every bit of experience you earn is doubled and the extra comes out of the bank, until it is spent. It shows among your buffs as "rested", with how much is left.
